Acerca de esta escucha
"Mom, Dad, I'm gay."
One Facebook message completely changed Becky Mackintosh's life in the blink of an eye. Though she had often wondered about her son Sean when he was young, she had never entertained the possibility that her suspicions could be true.
And just like that, battle lines were drawn between siblings, parents, and friends with the church somewhere in the middle. A choice was before the Mackintosh family. Just not the one they were expecting.
Experience Becky's journey and witness how her faith allowed her to embrace her religion and her gay son. She'll tell you that the answer to every question and conflict is love.

And it’s the most urgent and impactful thing we can do. This book will show you how.

I don't know whether this is the story of Jeff the autistic individual, Jeff the man of God, or Jeff the medical enigma; but I do know it is the story of Jeff, my son. Jeff was so autistic, and yet not autistic at all if you used the textbook definition. He had huge sensory integration issues and appeared to be living inside of himself, but he cared so much for God and other people that their needs always came above his own. He had severe speech issues, only spoke one-word answers, but wrote beautiful papers and prayers when given the Canon communicator.

Historia
As a teenager and young man, Justin Lee felt deeply torn. Nicknamed "God Boy" by his peers, he knew that he was called to a life in the evangelical Christian ministry. But Lee harbored a secret: He also knew that he was gay. In this groundbreaking book, Lee recalls the events - his coming out to his parents, his experiences with the "ex-gay" movement, and his in-depth study of the Bible - that led him, eventually, to self-acceptance. But more than just a memoir, Torn provides insightful, practical guidance for all committed Christians who wonder how to relate to gay friends or family members - or who struggle with their own sexuality.

I was skeptical about this book, but found myself completely moved by it. It resonated with so many of my own thoughts that I have struggled to articulate. An example of Unconditional Love Looks Like
Many in the Moral Majority or the Religious Right forget when it comes to issues surrounding LGBTQ+ individuals is that their definition of unconditional love looks quite different from mine and the author of this audio book. I listened and felt touched to moistened eyes as the mother describes the difficult time her son had being Mormon and Gay.
Eventually her son was honestly accepted by his family and unconditional love is shown.

Love really is the answer to all of life’s ills.
Becky and Scott Mackintosh are two of the genuinely kindest people I know. It is interesting how I often find myself feeling better when someone else has the same challenges I do. But I found myself feeling the heartbreak Becky and Scott felt as they went through this experience with Xian and the rest of their family. My wife, Michelle, and I felt many of the same things Becky and Scott described as we experienced, and to some extent still are experiencing, this journey with two of our own children.
Thank you Becky and Scott for sharing your story - and Xian’s story - with such raw openness, tenderness, love, and compassion. You affirmed much of what I already knew. But more importantly, you taught me more that I did not know and needed to learn!

Very inspiring, a must read.
I loved listening to this story. It was honest and heartfelt as they shared the ups and downs of their experience. While I do not have a child who is gay I do have nephews, cousins, and children of friends who are. I had read several books from the gay person's perspective and it was interesting and inspiring to hear it from the parent of a gay person's perspective. And really the things they shared about loving and not judging apply to so many situations not just having a family member or friend who is gay. I highly recommend reading or listening to it. And I liked that it was the author, her son and her husband who did the reading. It made the emotion more authentic.
