Good if you like a quick guilty pleasure read

But not quite what I was looking for, although I should've realized as much. The book is exactly what it's trying to be: romance and lust between two characters destined to be enemies in a slowly approaching doom setting, with a narrator fully into it. And if that's all you need, this book is probably for you!

Personally though, I felt there wasn't enough to the story. The worldbuilding left unanswered questions, which weren't necessarily important to the thin plot but confused me nonetheless. The characters' decisions and motives didn't always make much sense, or at least lacked in explanation. The narrator often got a bit too theatrical to my liking. But take this with a grain of salt if you will, as this review is coming from someone who enjoys her relationships much much more platonic.

Definitely a fun time

Well, this was surprisingly fun. A gay Beauty and the Beast retelling with a witch and a vampire? I'm in. There's nothing overly complicated about this. It's easily enjoyable and entertaining, and the smut is a fun time. I wasn't the biggest fan of some of the writing. The occasional word choices made me cringe just a bit, but overall, it's great, and I will keep reading Ben's work. I wish I had checked out his stuff sooner.

Just meh

Story had some very promising aspects but overall in the end fell very flat. The storyline and the characters always felt were at the edge of something great but never allowed to get there. The steamy parts were very steamy but again felt rushed and kind of out of nowhere. I wish the author would have taken their time to flush out these hollow characters. The rhythm of the voice actor kept frustrating me throughout the listen.

Pleased with the story! Ben Alderson truly paints a vibrant world with his wordsmithing! Cannot wait to move onto his other stories!
