Racing Through Time

Lighthouse Point by Nicholas Harvey is more than just a dive into the technical/deep waters outside of Bonaire; it’s a heart-pounding journey through time that left me breathless.

From the first chapter, I was hooked by the dual timelines that masterfully wove together the adrenaline-fueled world of 1970s Formula One racing with the present-day adventures of AJ Bailey and her mentor, Reg Moore.

Harvey’s storytelling is nothing short of spectacular, especially for those of us who crave the thrill of a good chase, whether it’s on the track or underwater.

The way Harvey balances the two timelines is nothing short of genius. I usually find it easy to get lost when a story flips between past and present, but in Lighthouse Point, each era’s storyline was so compelling that I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.

The 1970s Grand Prix scenes are a love letter to the golden age of racing (and once you finish the book, you can tell Harvey’s background in racing). He captured the raw intensity and danger (especially in the 70s when it was “safer” to be flung from the wreck) of the sport in a deeply authentic way.

Meanwhile, AJ and Reg’s underwater escapades kept the present-day narrative just as gripping, with every technical dive bringing a new layer of suspense and intrigue.

Kim Bretton’s narration was the perfect complement to Harvey’s vivid storytelling. Her ability to embody the characters brought them to life in such a dynamic way that I felt I was right beside them. The 70s flashbacks were particularly impressive—Bretton’s pacing and delivery during those scenes were so smooth and natural, it was as if she had lived through those high-octane days herself. It’s clear she understands the characters deeply, and that connection made the audiobook even more immersive and enjoyable.

If you’ve enjoyed previous books in this series, you’re in for an even bigger treat with Lighthouse Point. The stakes are higher, the twists are sharper, and the thrill of the race—and the dive—will keep you on the edge of your seat. This audiobook is a must-listen for fans of fast cars, deep dives, and unforgettable adventures. While very technical in both aspects, I love that Harvey goes into the details he does. I felt like I left the book with a greater understanding but more importantly respect for both Formula One and technical diving

Disappointed!

Very disappointed with this AJ Bailey series entry. Half of the story is centered around 1970s formula one racing in Europe that, in the end has virtually nothing to do with current events and, to top it off, you don’t even get any closure or resolution to that entire storyline or it’s characters. Even if you can get past the whole car racing angle, the story is devoid of all the other characters that have made this series great. You can safely skip this book and not miss any continued storyline as there is none. Save your money.
