Acerca de esta escucha

Learning how to live in today's new social and cultural environment will require examination, trial and error, and adaptation over time. But there are ways to live with integrity and follow Christ today, even in a negative world.

From a peak in church attendance in the mid-20th century, Christianity has been on a trajectory of decline in the United States. Once positive toward Christianity and Christian moral teachings, cultural shifts toward the mid-90s led many to adopt a more neutral tone toward the Christian faith, seeing it as one option among many in a pluralistic public square. Today, however, Christianity is viewed negatively, and being known as a Christian often means a lower social status in elite society. Christian morality is openly repudiated and viewed as a threat to the new moral order.

In Life in the Negative World, author Aaron M. Renn looks at the lessons from Christian cultural engagement over the past 70 years and suggests specific strategies for churches, institutions, and individuals to live faithfully in the "negative" world—a culture opposed to Christian values and teachings. And since there is no one-size-fits-all solution, living as a follower of Christ in the new, negative world and being missionally engaged will require a diversity of strategies.

Maybe a little more Boniface Option than Benedict Option

A practical guide for these new and changing times. It’s an honest look at the state of the church and it gives actions we can be doing to be effective Christians.

Aaron Renn perceives the times with sober-minded reflection.

Aaron Renn perceives the times with sober-minded reflection. His analyses of the current status of evangelicalism gives fresh insight into where churches and Christian families ought to focus their efforts. In a world of fear mongering, Renn distinguishes himself by giving practical areas where the church needs to change while maintaining an optimistic view of the future.

What should Christians do when neither political party is viable?

“Life in the Negative World” balances analysis with a practical roadmap for Christians in the West where Christianity is no longer the majority cultural influence.

Thought provoking and practically helpful

I just finished Aaron’s book. While I was listening to it there were a couple ähha moments. One was his analysis of the influence of particular denominations in America throughout history. I’ve been in the PCA most of my life and no one ever told me why the PCA is the way it is. This opened up my world and was helpful to think about. He gives practical advice on how to live as a Christian in 2024 and things that we should be focusing on in order to be an answer to a hostile world. Thank you brother for your expertise and hard work in writing this book. I’m praying that Jesus blesses your efforts. Aaron is very smart and has gifts that lend to extracting gold out of a complicated landscape that blesses the people that read this book. I especially appreciated the part of this book that discussed complimentarianism and egalitarianism, vocation, denominations and their influence, and owning a business as a Christian in today’s climate. Most of the things that Aaron talks about in here you don’t hear anywhere else. Aaron’s gifts (his interests in cities and civic developments, on what it means to be a man, on the effects of the nuclear family, vocation, and politics are full of wisdom. This is an excellent analysis on what has been going on for the last 100 years and where we are at today. Excellent!!!
