Acerca de esta escucha

How will artificial intelligence affect crime, war, justice, jobs, society, and our very sense of being human? The rise of AI has the potential to transform our future more than any other technology - and there's nobody better qualified or situated to explore that future than Max Tegmark, an MIT professor who's helped mainstream research on how to keep AI beneficial.

How can we grow our prosperity through automation without leaving people lacking income or purpose? What career advice should we give today's kids? How can we make future AI systems more robust so that they do what we want without crashing, malfunctioning, or getting hacked? Should we fear an arms race in lethal autonomous weapons? Will machines eventually outsmart us at all tasks, replacing humans on the job market and perhaps altogether? Will AI help life flourish like never before or give us more power than we can handle?

What sort of future do you want? This book empowers you to join what may be the most important conversation of our time. It doesn't shy away from the full range of viewpoints or from the most controversial issues - from superintelligence to meaning, consciousness, and the ultimate physical limits on life in the cosmos.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"This is a compelling guide to the challenges and choices in our quest for a great future of life, intelligence and consciousness - on Earth and beyond." (Elon Musk, founder, CEO, and CTO of SpaceX and cofounder and CEO of Tesla Motors)
"All of us - not only scientists, industrialists and generals - should ask ourselves what can we do now to improve the chances of reaping the benefits of future AI and avoiding the risks. This is the most important conversation of our time, and Tegmark's thought-provoking book will help you join it." (Professor Stephen Hawking, director of research, Cambridge Centre for Theoretical Cosmology)
"Tegmark's new book is a deeply thoughtful guide to the most important conversation of our time, about how to create a benevolent future civilization as we merge our biological thinking with an even greater intelligence of our own creation." (Ray Kurzweil, inventor, author, and futurist, author of The Singularity Is Near and How to Create a Mind)

Incredible book about hypothetical futures!

Great book that covers both positive and negative potential of AI development. Max is even handed in his writing which is refreshing considering alarmist views are more popular today. Inspiring read for anyone wondering about a scientific argument for meaning in the universe and in life. Thanks Max for writing this it had a positive impact on my life. Also thanks to the narrator for delivering the book in such an accessible way and style.

Broader than expected

I wanted to learn more about the current state of AGI. I got what I wanted and so much more. This left me with a great deal of inspiration to feed my thoughts on theology, mortality, physics, community, individualism, and more.

strong beginning

starts strong but gets repetitive towards the end. also, the last chapters where the authors are praising their own achievements ans how much they received funding are completely unnecessary.

Deep Thoughts About A Deep Subject

This book contains some of the most thought-provoking and profound ideas I've read about this year (and, it's been a long year). Here we have the reference work on the future of artificial intelligence, the question of what is consciousness, and possible futures for all of us.

The Perpetual Ying and Yang of Advancement

Max Tegmark, does a fantastic job of bringing a clarity to what is possible in the age of AI. Technological advancements from the beginning in time have had the exact same dilemma facing them, rocks were chiseled in tools and arrowheads originally used for hunting and sustaining life, then used by some as tool to fight wars and battles, AI is no different. Good and bad (Ying/Yang) will always exist, those that want to do good with it will do amazing things, those that want to use it for harmful activities will do amazing things. The likely hood is that in the end there will be some balance of AI that will contribute to the growth of our existence and provide rich knowledge for our future pioneers.

Despite human hating, it's a good book

The only complaint that I have about this book are the chapters where the author delves into human hating. He seems to think that humans desire to keep AI under control is akin to slavery and that is a bit rich. He blames all of humanity for the horrible things that a very small minority of our species have done.

If you are going to generalize about what humans do as a species, why not generalize that we all have an immense capacity for love and show it often. Humans by nature have apathy in a capacity not seen by any other species on this planet. There's a reason that the word "inhumane" is applied to any act that violates the values that define our species.

So, besides his human hating chapters, this book is an excellent read about what could and probably will happen with AI in the future. Let this book serve as a warning that gee-wiz technology could come back to haunt us all of we aren't responsible with it.

The right book at the right time, written by the right person.

A significantly exhaustive yet concise breakdown of the philosophical challenges and questions we need to be asking and thinking about in this critical juncture of human technological evolution. I got a lot out of this book as it helped me refine my thinking on the subject. I spend a lot of time reading and pondering these matters so it was really nice to read such a well organized and explained breakdown from a person who is at the forefront of the topic. This is a gift to humanity and should be treated as such.

it'll challenge your conviction either way..

irrespective of which direction your prepositions on AI (or lack thereof) you'll find yourself challenged and positively dragged into engaging fundamental issues not only about AI but life in its entirety, your being, conscientiousness and purpose.. many classic and modern cultural references are made some may find them like a gap in context but the book find ila way to regroup back into its arc..
