It's never too late in life for passion and love

This was a great little surprise. Two 80 something's meet late in life, have great chemistry, banter, some laughs and end up falling fast in love. Only one problem, she is still married. Her husband has dementia and is declining, but she's promised she won't ever leave him alone. Horrible, horrible disease and really makes you wonder what you would do in that situation yourself.
Their relationship is passionate and when some things are said in the heat of the moment.... You think that the conflict is the fact that they can't fully be together because of her situation when really, I felt like this trumped that by a long shot.
The resolution is good, and while I typically like to see a little more after resolution, I think it ended appropriately for this book being their late stages of life. I laughed a bit, shed a few tears and ended with a content smile on my face and hope in my heart for these two. Narration was good!

GREAT STORY!

I really enjoyed this story. This book was emotional, funny and very sweet. The narration was great and kept you entertained. The author did a great job with the characters and plot. This was my first book by this author but definitely will not be my last. I'm looking forward to reading other books by this author. A great, well written story of two aging New Yorkers with different views and beliefs who develop a special bond, a blooming relationship, friends to lovers. A story of friendship, love and acceptance. Warren Adler is detail orientated & creates realistic characters, dialogue and storylines. I could vision Harvey and Sarah meeting in Central Park and having those conversations. The challenges of senior living was covered nicely including Alzheimer’s, dealing with caregiving and the friends who have left you in life. Thank you for this lovely story, I laughed and I cried.

I listened to the Audible edition, Robin Siegerman does a wonderful job narrating. She performs the voices of all the characters, switches vocals effortlessly and tells the story in a perfect flow with the right amount of dramatic flair. Great job on the NY accent too! Thank you for a great listen!

Nice Story overall

I got this free story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This book made me laugh, cry, get angry, and wonder. The love story was good but I am not a fan of someone cheating no matter the circumstances. She is still married and she promised until death. Dementia is a disease not death. Friendship yes, love, no. Because she needed the friendship to get through the days and hardships of the disease. The narrator was pretty good and moved the story along.

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over

The characters of Harvey Franklin and Sarah Silverman are first and foremost, New Yorkers. They’ve spent all of their adult lives there and were both married for 50+ years. Harvey is a widower; Sarah is a periwidow. Frank is still alive, but well down the road into dementia.
They have so much in common, but not. Harvey was raised Christian and Conservative; Sarah Jewish and Liberal. They’ve both raised children, but don’t necessarily understand them. They’ve both had successful careers. They’ve made it into their 80s with their minds and hearts intact.
I have never been enamored of or by New York, so I have to consciously work to ignore that bias in media to get to the heart of what is being portrayed.
I enjoyed that Adler wrote about Harvey and Sarah as real people who have plenty of life left in them. They’re not ghosts shuffling along at the edge of society. They have hopes, fears, successes and disappointments. They’re both dealing with their own challenges; and while it’s not about nuclear disarmament, they’re still tests - lessons - to be learned in this lifetime. What is it that we’ve learned that has true value? And what is crap that we need to deprogram, ignore, or toss?
And we need to watch for, and appreciate, those special people that come into our lives when we need them most. Above all, there is love. We go through this human life following the proscribed pathways, but it’s love that elevates us above and can get us through (or over, under, or around) anything.
Having said that, I do appreciate that the physical side of their relationship was still very much active;-)
Ms Siegerman was able to deliver a very New York voice to this production.

Life isn't over until it's over...

I was given this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review and let me say I truly enjoyed it. How often do we think about the love lives of octogenarians? Do we even consider that people of that age have love lives?

This book which was beautifully narrated tells the story of two people with different beliefs and views falling in love at what many consider the twilight of their lives. It is both heartbreaking and uplifting to walk along with the characters of this book.

A lovely little story narrated beautifully.

It is wonderful to see two aging seniors portrayed with such loving insight, depth and passion. Why young people see sexual interaction between older people as “yucky” is beyond me. Passion and sexual interest do not necessarily stop as people age. Sexuality can change and revitalize even in a long term marriage of many years.

Harry and Sarah discover that, even though their life beliefs have been polar opposites, these issues do not really matter or separate them. Both Harvey and Sarah contemplate the remaining years of their life with its loses and challenges.

The book portrays a New York life style which seems very accurate (from a non-New Yorker’s viewpoint.) What a very different life! The ending seemed very abrupt, but I guess it allows us to take the story forward on our own.
