"Yihad" es una palabra árabe que significa simplemente lucha, pero se suele interpretar por Guerra Santa. Por desgracia, hoy, está en boca de todo el mundo en esta sangrienta acepción. Hace catorce siglos el islam nacía bañado en sangre y al día de hoy no parece que esto haya cambiado mucho.
Si bien no todos los musulmanes son islamistas - aquellos que quieren adaptar la vida política a los preceptos del Corán - , ni todos los islamistas son yihadistas - los que quieren imponerlo por la fuerza y el terror - , sí es un hecho que estos últimos se han convertido, a ojos de muchos musulmanes, en la vanguardia de la religión.
Desde Mahoma al actual Estado Islámico pasando por la conquista de la Hispania visigoda, las cruzadas, el imperio otomano, o la guerra fría..., José Javier Esparza - uno de los mejores divulgadores históricos de nuestro país - profundiza en las raíces de la lucha contra el infiel y nos muestra que la interpretación bélica de la "yihad" es una constante en el mundo musulmán. Su conclusión es que la respuesta contra el fanatismo no puede venir de fuera, sino de adentro del propio islam ya que es este mismo el que ha generado una visión de la religión donde el recurso a la violencia halla legitimidad santa. Es necesario conocer la historia de la "Yihad" para poder comprender lo que está ocurriendo en la actualidad.
