Als ich ihn nachts aus dem Bett klingle, wollte ich eigentlich unseren tattrigen Kleinstadt-Tierarzt erreichen. Doch die dunkle, angesäuert klingende Stimme, die durchs Telefon dringt, gehört eindeutig jemand anderem. Und jagt mir heiße Schauer über den Rücken.
Keine zwanzig Minuten später fährt ein bullig gebauter, auf die raue Art attraktiver Kerl in die Einfahrt meiner Farm. Santiago Sanchez ist neu in der Stadt und hat die Praxis übernommen.
Er ist brummig und unhöflich, aber seine ruhige Art wirkt Wunder bei den vernachlässigten Pferden, die ich regelmäßig in meiner Tierschutzorganisation aufnehme. Allerdings hält mich das nicht davon ab, ihn ein bisschen zu ärgern und ihn für die Single-Versteigerung zum Valentinstag zu verpflichten.
Weil ich ihn wegen meiner neuesten Schützlinge ständig rufen muss, verbringen wir plötzlich sehr viel Zeit miteinander. Mit jeder gemeinsamen Minute, kommen wir uns näher.
Was hat ihn von der Großstadt in das überschaubare Pinewood Bay getrieben? Und kann ich wirklich dabei zusehen, wie er dank der Single-Versteigerung mit einer anderen Frau auf ein Date geht?
