Eleven-year-old twins Jess and Matt have lived with their upbeat Aunt Emma ever since their parents mysteriously disappeared six years ago.
Jess is serious and studious; Matt is fun-loving and doesn’t care much for school. But they have one thing in common: They desperately want to know what happened to their parents.
When Matt’s friend Jax mentions the Dark Watchers, mysterious shadowy figures who appear at dawn and dusk in the Santa Lucia Mountains, Matt’s brain starts whirring. Local legend says these strange figures are responsible for many unexplained disappearances. Could their parents be among them?
Not even the skeptical Jess can resist researching the legend, and she has to admit, the stories are compelling. Between Jess’s careful research and Matt’s love for adventure, the twins come up with a plan to find out more—one that won’t arouse Aunt Emma’s suspicions.
As the twins embark on their quest for answers, they have no idea what to expect, or just who it is they’re dealing with. They certainly don’t expect to come face to face with one of the mysterious figures on the first night.
