As disciples of Jesus our hearts are meant to burn with love unceasingly. Solitude is a wonderful place to learn how to kindle this fire into flame. It can then become a constant source of delight within us. This warmth is unique and does not compare with any other stirrings the heart can experience. The holy fire that comes from the spirit is distinctive. When it comes we perceive that it comes from an inexhaustible source. We go to solitude to be still so that the Holy Spirit will come to us and make his home in us. We go to solitude to learn to enjoy the delight of this holy fire; to be in his zone. So, Father Mark decided to camp on a raft for eight days as he wanted to see if these seven principles for thriving in solitude were as effective as he thought them to be.

Wonderful book, better to listen at .85 speed.
Father Goring shares some great insights in this book and I truly enjoyed listening to it. The first time through I found it being read way to fast like they increased the speed of the narration. When I switchd to .85 speed I was able to listen and really enjoy the learnings shared from Father Goring's unique adventure into solitude.

Really enjoyable reading voices
This book is read by a mother and son team. Their voices are clear and easy to understand, the content was very good. Excellent tips on how to be alone and grow closer to God in the wilderness.

Inspiring Journey to solitude by a very young traveler
Fr. Mark has captured the critical elements for seeking peace in solitude. He boldly takes himself into solitude and gives a practical guide from his experience. I am hopeful that he will continue writing of his even deeper future pursuits into solitude. His love of God and respect for the Desert Fathers is inspiring.
