Sara is currently an advocate for the rights of incarcerated women and children, and the inspiration behind Sara’s Law, a bill currently in the House of Representative seeking to protect children of abuse from facing life sentences.

Beautiful, Powerful

This isn't a true crime or sensationalist shock story. It's a powerful memoir about one of the many ways young, black and brown girls fall into sex trafficking right here in America. I wish more stories were treated like this.

Her story is one of survival and grace and the co-writer's prose is beautifully constructed but never overwrought or flowery. High recommend

From the Ashes, She Rose!

This was a very good book, worth the read. I verified how every adult in this woman’s life failed her in every way! Nobody of authority looked beyond the obvious to see how she was damaged and hurt. Shame on the court system to have allowed more abuse of her as a teen. My heart hurts for what she went through, and I pray the rest of her and her daughters life is Blessed.

A True Warrior

Thank you for telling your story. I'm appalled at the whole legal system and sadly, there are many other stories like this. Sara was repeatedly abused by adults at such a young age and the court system denied bringing that into evidence because they didn't think it was related to the murder? Anyone who listens to the story knows different. Her public defender was worthless not calling any witnesses. Sadly, good representation has always been about who has more money.

A child does not have the capacity to understand everything happening to them. And.... it's ILLEGAL! Her abuser raped her and sold her as a child. That should have been the first part of the trial.

A Rose is Still a Rose

Just as their thorns pierced her delicate skin, the sweet smelling soft petals of the flower made her smile again.
Cellmates became Kin, she transformed a loss into a win. Storms came but she didn't pretend, Summer Reign makes her grin. Amen

Sara Kruzan at age 17 shot and killed her pimp, who had groomed her since age 11 to be a prostitute. The judge took none of that into account, only seeing a violent girl, and locked her away for life according to minimum adult guidelines. This is her life story and it is really good. She is the namesake of H.R.1950 - Sara's Law a bill that would allow juvenile victims of sex trafficking who in turn commit violent crimes against their trafficker to have more lenient sentencing guidelines. The book is eye opening how trafficking happens. I think if trafficking victims started killing their pimps more often, and getting lighter sentences, there might be fewer pimps in this world. So far Sara's Law is on the books in two states, it will be interesting to see how the experiment works out. Sara Kruzan making life incompatible with pimping.
