Acerca de esta escucha

In Boyfriend Material, Luc and Oliver met, pretended to fall in love, fell in love for real, dealt with heartbreak and disappointment and family and friends...and somehow figured out a way to make it work. Now it seems like everyone around them is getting married, and Luc's feeling the social pressure to propose. But it'll take more than four weddings, a funeral, and a bowl full of special curry to get these two from "I don't know what I'm doing" to "I do".

Good thing Oliver is such perfect Husband Material.

The anticipation was fully justified

Boyfriend Material is, without question, my favorite romantic comedy. I first read it about a year ago and have since listened to the audiobook about five times. When I found out that there would be a sequel, I was over the moon, then agonized when I realized I'd have to wait until August to read it. As soon as I woke up on the morning of release, I started the book. I was a little nervous that the sequel wouldn't live up to the original, but it did. Another amazing book. Luc and Oliver still have a lot of issues, and some of it may seem like rehashing the old problems from book one. But I thought it was very believable the amount of headway they made and the hangups that remained. The last two hours of the book just about did me in with dread over how things would end. But I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion. Alexis Hall is truly a genius and I am literally in love with Joe Jameson's voice. I'm sure I will listen to this over and over again.

Not sure….

I don’t want to put a spoiler here. The only way I think I can describe this book is triggering in some ways. As with all triggers, they can be unique to an individual, but I listened to this entire book and found myself distraught with the confusing ending. The author tried to make it poetic and it was incredibly well written with complex characters, but I ended the story emotionally worn out from these two men.

A uselessly tumultuous emotional roller coaster

I want to start by saying i love this Author and I loved Boyfriend Material. As a whole i have admired the authors humor, and more importantly their ability to write emotionally complex and complicated characters which you can sometimes disagree with but ultimately can understand and love.

This book....was not that. What worked in the first book and made me fall in love with Lucien and Oliver, is now a tired repetitive and honestly bullshit argument that it doesnt seem genuine or reasonable for either to be having. and if the end point is that they were arguing about it because in the end they didnt want to get married at all it just makes them both even more insufferable. especially when there are several points where they get to a point where they could have reached the conclusion and decided not to get married and stay together that would have been far mor impactful and meaningful.

it felled as if i was being emotionally yanked around the whole book only to be told ah well nevermind.

and for the love of God, they both could clearly have benefited from therapy both together and alone, and while Oliver is stated to have been in therapy, i think Lucian would have benefitted just as much (or more) from the same.

maybe they both would have realized that neither of them know what marriage is and they have decided it has to be this rainbow paloooza with comercialized crap or the equivalent of the royal wedding. And they litterally could have eloped and carried on without all the damn useless pointless dramatic faffing about the consitution of marriage.

like Bridget tried to communicate, its just a piece of paper. your actual relationship doesnt change if you dont actually want it to.

anyways, i will not be revisiting this book. i am so emotionally drained and annoyed.

Brilliantly bittersweet

I don’t know why I do this to myself, really.
I enjoy the story crafting of Alexis Hall so much and the telling of it by Joe Jameson is so provocative and delicious that when these books come to an end I find myself at a loss. Quite miserable actually.

It’s this weirdly satisfying peak as it draws to a conclusion followed by a twang of disappointment that it’s come to an end. I have separation anxiety. It’s like I’ve now been dumped by Luke and Oliver after a wonderful throuple they were completely unaware existed. And Joe Jameson’s voice. Good grief. What mortal man’s tone will ever be able to hold a candle to his loin-stirring interpretation of Oliver Blackwood.

I am now that guy who’s ideal man is a character in an audiobook. Albeit a particularly compelling one. Sigh. And what’s worse… I know that I’ll be first in line to download the very next Joe and Alexis collaborative project because -delicious, bittersweet, compelling etc- and clearly I am a bugger for punishment. Again. Again. Please. It’s lonely out here.

Think Bridget Jones...but gayer

I was nervous about this book because of the reviews, but as long as you enjoy realistic endings you'll enjoy this story as much as Boyfriend Material. There's character growth and a lot of heart and plenty of romance. It ends the way it should and I hope there's a third book!

Loved the hilarious and sweet continuation of Oliver and Luc’s love story, the cast of characters, and the impeccable narration.

Let down

The first book was really good. Then this story built up and the ending was a total disappointment.

Loved it but maybe not the ending 9/10

The ending was good. Just not what I expected but it’s not that it was bad. I just didn’t see that coming ironically. Definitely recommend this book and the first to anyone who wanted a cute story.

A wonderfully warm sequel

A wonderful warm sequel and my personal top contender for feel-good, lgbt+, rom-com series of 2023 reading challenge (so far).
