A l'encontre de la représentation scénique où les personnages sont présents et visibles, la réalisation de cette pièce sous une forme uniquement sonore lui apporte une dimension nouvelle, qui correspond mieux au sens même des personnages décrits par l'auteur comme "morts" ou "absents". La notion d'absence ne pouvait pas être mieux représentée que par la voix des acteurs. Jean-Paul Sartre aimait ce raisonnement. Il a ainsi préfacé par la parole en enregistrant et en commentant "L'enfer c'est les autres", après avoir évoqué la "cause occasionnelle" qui l'a amené à écrire Huis Clos. Frémeaux & Associés remet à la disposition du public ce document unique de l'histoire de la philosophie dans le théâtre incarné par Jean-Paul Sartre et les comédiens d'origine.
