Berg bringer hende røde roser, men Edda er ikke sikker på sine følelser. Da han har forladt stuen, river hun straks bladene af roserne, men stopper sig selv for at indsnuse deres vidunderlige duft - hvad skal hun dog gøre, og vil Berg i det hele taget have hende?

Ingeborg Buhl (1890-1982) var en dansk forfatter med tysk-danske rødder. Hun nød blandt andet at rejse omkring i både Europa og Mellemøsten. Rejserne måtte indstilles på grund af 1. verdenskrig, men efter krigens afslutning begyndte Ingeborg Buhl at planlægge en større dannelsesrejse, og det skulle ikke blive den sidste rejse for den eventyrlystne kvinde med trang til dramatik og uforudsigelighed. Som 45-årig flyttede hun ind på Roskilde adelige Jomfrukloster, og disse år viste sig at blive givende for Buhl, der nu for alvor fik gang i sin forfatterkarriere. Hun havde haft sin litterære debut i 1929 med en novelle i "Tilskueren" og i 1938 fik hun udgivet sin første roman, "Sidsel Orne". Udover at skrive sine egne værker var Ingeborg Buhl også en meget dygtig oversætter, der oversatte 25 mesterværker i serien "Hasselbachs Kulturbibliotek". I løbet af sin lange karriere udgav Buhl både romaner, noveller, digtsamlinger, ordbøger, essaysamlinger og aviskronikker. Multikunstneren Ingeborg Buhl var ligeledes kendt for sin billedkunst og sine musikalske evner, som hun benyttede til at komponere.
