Alcoholism affects everybody. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do, if you know an alcoholic, your life will change. Interpersonal relationships will suffer, recovery will stagnate, and families will crumble. Substance abuse counseling is a necessary part of recovery. In order to remove the effects of alcoholism on family and marriage, in order to truly help an addict, we must learn to support an alcoholic. Helping an alcoholic is no easy task, but it is certainly within our power. Even the most incorrigible alcoholics can get the addiction treatment they need. Through the right approach, the correct action plan, and the proper addiction recovery program, we can all learn how to reverse the terrible effects of alcoholism and sustain recovery once and for all.
