Acerca de esta escucha

James White captures all the breathtaking excitement of the perils and rewards of the future's medical frontiers in this gripping book.

Sector General: a massive deep-space hospital station on the Galactic Rim, where human and alien medicine meet. It's 384 levels and thousands of staff members are supposedly able to meet the needs of any conceivable alien patient–though that capacity is always being strained as more (and stranger) alien races turn up to join the galactic community. Sentient viruses, interspecies romances, undreamed-of institutional catering problems–it all lands on Sector General's doorstep.

Classical Sci-fi At its Best

James White is amongst the greats when it comes to speculative aliens and world building. Though much of the aspects of the stories are seen through a more "Vintage sci-fi" filter, one could equate the stores to classics like Star Trek (the use of empathy, telepathy, and other what we currently refer to as "metaphysical" abilities being wildly popular during the time of publication). But taking this into account The world created is seamless and makes these contacts seem natural within it. The interaction of the multi species staff through the hospital setting is both entertaining and at times hair raising. with a balance of ethics, morality, and overall interacting with beings with different mentalities.

The narrator did a fantastic job of adapting the source materia and keeping true to the characters as they were presented in the original text.

Long-time Fans Rejoice!

James White's Sector General hospital-in-space stories have been a favorite of mine for decades.
This book starts with an injured O'Mara being saddled with the care of an infant Hudlarian. His solutions for caring for the gigantic being are quite innovative. Then we are introduced to the newbie, Dr. Conway. His attempts to solve the varied puzzles of alien health problems are intriguing. All set against the vast complex, and many personalities, of a multi-species hospital in space. I can hardly wait for the next one!!!
