Beware the blackbirds…

It’s Halloween in Vermont, winter is coming, and five humans, two dogs, and a cat are a crowd in Mercy Carr’s small cabin. She needs more room—and she knows just the place: Grackle Tree Farm, with thirty acres of woods and wetlands and a Victorian manor to die for. A coded letter found on the victim points to a hidden treasure that may be worth a fortune—if it’s real. She and Captain Thrasher conduct a search of the old place—and end up at the wrong end of a Glock. A masked man shoots Thrasher, and she and Elvis must take him down before he murders them all. Under fire, she and Elvis manage to run the guy off, but not before they are wounded, leaving Thrasher fighting for his life in the hospital, Mercy on crutches, and Elvis on the mend.

Now it’s up to Mercy and Troy and the dogs to track down the masked murderer in a county overflowing with leaf peepers, Halloween revelers, and treasure hunters and bring him to justice before he strikes again and the treasure is lost forever, along with the good name of Grackle Tree Farm….

Loved these books!

Loved the Mercy Carr series. Well developed characters. They were genuine and relatable. I felt Mercy was strong and smart and vulnerable at the same time. Elvis and Suzy Bear were so endearing. Loyal and protective and loved beyond measure. Each book was a page turner. The plot twist left me guessing. The last of the series left me wanting more. I hope this is not the end of the Mercy Carr story. The narration was excellent and I was happy the same narrator carried on through each book. This is not always the case in other book series and authors. She did a great job. I always knew the difference between each character.

Great story and even better narrator.

Another winner from this author/narrator duo. I don’t know what I love more, Mercy, the wonderful sense of place and cozyness (but never twee), the realism, the canine and human characters.

Love Mercy, Elvis , Troy and Susie Bear. The characters are terrific and I love the storylines. The narrator, as always, is terrific and perfect for narrating these books.

New series to love

I thoroughly enjoy every book about mercy Carr. And the audio books just bring it all to life.

Always a great mystery with great depth and great characters

The story is moving all the time from the very beginning to the end with a challenging story line

The close relationships with on people and people and with their animals

The closeness between Mercy and Elvis. The mystery within a mystery is a nice addition to these stories. I also enjoyed the continuation from story to story.

Another Gem

Paula Munier has created yet another multi-layered mystery for my new favorite couple to solve. Mercy and Troy, along with Elvis and Susie Bear, do not disappoint. It is true that things are changing for them at an almost alarming pace, but they don't let circumstances change who they are, and I hope that continues in future books. After the rather abrupt ending of Book 4, I was pleased to get some flashbacks in this book that filled in a few gaps. I hate waiting another year for the next adventure, but I look forward to it.
