Seit der Planet Trokan, der an Stelle des Mars um die Sonne kreist, aus dem Zeitrafferfeld auftauchte und sich eine völlig neue Zivilisation in direkter Nachbarschaft der Erde präsentierte, sind Ereignisse von großer Tragweite geschehen. Perry Rhodan, Reginald Bull und Alaska Saedelaere verschwanden im sogenannten Pilzdom, gelangten auf die mysteriöse Brücke in die Unendlichkeit und wurden im Arsenal der Macht getrennt. In der Zwischenzeit wurde die heimatliche Milchstraße Schauplatz einer merkwürdigen Invasion. Zuerst kamen die Igelschiffe, deren Besatzungen rund 300 Planeten abriegelten und als Brutwelten nutzten. Nachdem die Bevölkerung von 52 Welten komplett getötet worden war, zogen sich die Invasoren an den Rand der Galaxis zurück.
Weitere 52 Planeten gerieten in den Bann der Philosophen, offensichtlich "Erzeugnisse" der bisherigen Brutvorgänge. Die Bewohner dieser Planeten wechselten vom sogenannten Kritzelwahn zur Todessehnsucht und träumten nur noch davon, zu sterben und damit in einer Wesenheit namens Goedda aufzugehen. Erst ein Vorstoß der Aktivatorträger Atlan, Dao-Lin-H'ay und Myles Kantor ins Innere von Goeddas Traumblase brachte Hilfe: Es gelang der Gruppe, den Brutkosmos mit Hilfe einer Bombe zu vernichten. Wie es scheint, ist damit auch Goedda vernichtet. Doch dann stellen Erkundungskommandos fest, dass sich das Kritzelphänomen erneut manifestiert.
Anscheinend gibt es zumindest noch Reste von Goedda, von den Hunderttausenden von Raumschiffen der Invasoren ganz zu schweigen. Diese haben die HOFFNUNG DER TOLKANDER …
