Hockey Moms laces together the stories of NHL hockey moms like Kelly McDavid and Ema Matthews with those of mothers who never expected their children to set foot on the ice. With insight, warmth, honesty and humour, more than thirty hockey moms share their own journeys as they figure out how to juggle trips to the rink with raising a family, building their own backyard rinks, finding ways to pay for new gear and dealing with the sometimes-heartbreaking setbacks faced along the way.
We learn first-hand, through personal examples, that there are different pathways that lead our children where they want to go. Often, it’s mothers who carry the emotional burden of helping kids navigate their path.

Hockey big and small
I loved the universality of the stories. I could put my own faces to most of the stories in this book!I must be a hockey mom.
My mom was a figure skater and my dad played pick up ice hockey growing up in CLE, OH. My siblings and I grew up in southwestern Michigan playing floor hockey because we didn’t have regular ice. Those Peterborough girls cleaned our clocks! I’ve raised 2 boys in CLE. One took to hockey, one did not. The one that did skates on the same ice I learned to skate and my parents met. My guy is content playing for his high school (no NHL in our future) and I can still relate to crazy hockey parents, ice times and a crockpot going throughout the season.
I laughed and cried, it’s totally worth the time! Thanks for getting the moms side of the story!
