history of Italy and Europe
One of the interesting facts in this book that I learned was about the Unification of Italy in 1861, Before 1861 the country was divided into various states, and these states often were not self-governing but were instead ruled by other powers. I especially liked the chapter about the renaissance. I really enjoyed this book.

a large span of history and a wealth of information of Italy's complexities and ruling by surrounding countries

More than emperors
Most books about Italy are focused on Rome and the emperors who ruled it. But this book goes into great detail about the rest of Italy. Very well written and performed.
