Acerca de esta escucha
Suicide. Depression. Self-harm. Anxiety. All things I had become intimate with because Arya produced it within me. Two suicide attempts by 17, I was slowly being destroyed by her. My entire life a struggle for survival.
Just out of the psych ward for the second time in my life, Hunter Daniels befriends me. He offers me comfort, understanding, acceptance, and makes me feel as if it's ok to be me, crazy or not.
It's not long before I fall for him. As soon as I do, I discover his secret--the real reason he wanted to be my friend.
His secret threatens to destroy me and everything I'd worked for to get as stable as possible. Arya takes advantage of my vulnerability and strikes hard and fast. My life spirals further out of control than it ever has before.

Amazing representation of teen struggles with mental health
Ok so at the beginning of this I was honestly triggered. Not in a way that made me stop reading, but some things hit very close to home. (Please don’t let that deter you! Of course read trigger warnings but I believe this story could be good for a lot of people struggling.) The topics are tough, real life issues that a lot of people struggle with.
Somewhere along the way Sam (FMC) opens herself up to help. She becomes social again & even has professional help that she eventually takes seriously. I have to say that my favorite part of the book was when she opened up at Jake’s party. Hearing other people understand her & verbalize their own issues really hit hard. If I had read this in high school I may have let Sam’s courage become my own.
I also appreciate that this book ends happily but that it still showed the ups & downs. Sometimes novels about mental health make it seem like once you find treatment, everything is great. Although that can make for a great story, it’s not true in the least. The way Stokes wrote this is beautiful.
If you want a novel that shines an honest light on mental illness while bringing understanding & hope, get “Hijacked” now!!
Thank you Stokes for allowing me the honor of listening to this. It’ll stick with me for a long time.

A very emotional book with a happy ending.
In the beginning I was really pissed with arya thinking she was being. A horrible friend until I realized Sam was dealing with mental illness. The ups and downs for Sam was very relatable and I loved how hunter wanted to be her friend while trying to help her get thru every day. I loved seeing how she was able to cope and finally open up about what she dealt with on a daily basis. I was so happy that she was able to finally get the right diagnosis and help she needed and that thru it all hunter never left her side. I loved the ending so much.

A captivating story
I absolutely love the story of Sam and her struggles with mental illness. It was beautifully written, and my heart truly broke for her, rooted for her, and cheered her victories.

Whew! Alllll the feels!
I would not normally read a story with mental illness in the forefront, as I tend to read stories to escape the harshness of life. This book, though. I've just finished it and I'm honestly in a struck-dumb state. This story had me on the roller-coaster that is Sam's life, and it's so well-written, and so well-performed, that the listener is just sucked in. I lived the life of Sam, felt what she felt: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I highly, highly recommend this book, not only to readers/listeners seeking escapism, but to those who may suffer with mental illness challenges. I'd go as far as to say, this should be a reading requirement in high schools everywhere.
Themes of mental illness, love, coming of age, and triumph over adversity. A must read or listen!

Powerful and impactful
“Hijacked” by M.C. Stokes is a dark, emotionally intense story that dives deep into mental health and the silent battles so many fight alone. The Audible version brought this to life in such a powerful way—the narrator’s emotion made it all the more impactful. Stokes does a remarkable job of shedding light on the realities of suicide and mental health and the stigma that often keeps people from reaching out. What stood out to me most was the reminder that sometimes friends and family do notice something’s wrong, but they just don’t know how to help. This book encourages us to break that silence—to ask, to check in. It’s okay to not be okay, and it’s okay to ask for help. This is a powerful and necessary read that stays with you.
