Acerca de esta escucha

In a shadowy, crumbling Edinburgh housing development, a junkie lies dead of an overdose, his body surrounded by signs of Satanic worship. Inspector John Rebus could call it an accident. But won’t. Now he’s got to search the city, from the tunnels of its dark underbelly to the private sanctum of the upper crust, to find the perfect hiding place for a killer.

A very complex plot that was interesting but I had to reread several things and relisten to several things to keep track. The performance audio was done well I really understand how difficult it is to differentiate voices with all the characters. still recommend the old BBC series of this it's not very politically correct you just have to think of the time period.

a good book in the series

I was mostly into (the audible version) for the spoken dialects to compare with the first season of the BBC version (another "Thank Gawd for Subtitles" show). i'm impressed. i started with "Knots and Crosses" and i'm looking forward to "Tooth and Mail".

Edinburgh Spoken Here

Not as good as the first. But I’ll read the next in the series in a month or so.

Second Rebus

I really like the dry Scottish Humor in the Ian Rankin Inspector Reubus series. I had listened to about half of the series and decided to listen to them again, in order, which really helps, to keep you from those "what the heck moments "

Give it a go. Moving on to the third in the series. So glad I read the second book.

Way better than the first one

I recently re-listened to the Rebus series in order since they are all available to me now. Most stood up - or played even better taken chronologically. In this one, however, Rebus is still an Adam Dalgliesh wanna-be, drinking Chablis, reading and listening to the classics, friendship-hugging vulnerable women. And Rankin is still learning how to write. That said, it's still a decent mystery, just not what we'd expect from Rebus or Rankin a little later in their careers. The biggest value was seeing Holmes and Rebus at the start of their relationship.

I really dislike Page as a Rebus narrator - but that's a more personal choice.

for Rebus diehards only

If you could sum up Hide and Seek in three words, what would they be?

This is another Inspector Rebus mystery; this time he is busy investigating an apparent drug overdose.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No, it was a bit too convoluted.

Have you listened to any of Michael Page’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He does a great job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not especially.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this, but it wasn't one of my favorite Inspector Rebus stories.

another Inspector Rebus mystery

Enjoyed very much. Love how Rebus is not "perfect." Off to listen to the next one!

Great Book

In this book Rebus is a bully and a selfish cad who blows relationships with women through crude and obtuse behavior.

Great pace and tension though and terrific ending.

Who wants to read about Rebus as a bully?
