***THIS IS THE GUIDEBOOK THAT EVERY PARENT SHOULD READ AND EXPLAIN TO THEIR CHILD***

Parents who want to actively prevent their children from the risks of vaping and the lifelong effects of nicotine addiction must first arm themselves with knowledge about vaping and nicotine. We lay the groundwork for your success by using a physician’s expertise to make sense of the latest reports from the CDC and the current research around the world. This guide summarizes that information in easy-to-digest question and answer segments. Our goal is to give you the tools you need to engage your teenagers (and anyone else) in healthy discussion on the risks and consequences of vaping.

As a physician and a parent, I know that you have questions about vaping. This comprehensive guide was designed to answer all of your questions on vaping and more – it will educate you about the science that proves the danger is real. The struggle to end teen vaping is an uphill battle. The billion-dollar corporations who own the vaping companies fill the airwaves and internet with advertising that makes vaping seem safe and cool. Our teens are being conditioned to think that vaping is a recreational activity with no risk, but this is so far from the truth it is almost embarrassing.

The NYTS survey conducted in 2022 revealed that 16.5% of high school students indicated they used a tobacco product within the previous 30 days[i]. In other words, if your teenage child invited over six friends, one of those friends may have used a tobacco product in the previous month. For middle school children, the rate of tobacco products use was 1 in 21 children. Over three million children in the survey admitted to tobacco use in the previous month, and 2 out of every 3 tobacco users reported electronic cigarettes or vape devices as the nicotine delivery device they used. Over 80% of the kids using e-cigarettes reported using flavored products such as fruit, candy, or dessert-themed nicotine products.

Many parents meticulously childproof their house when their child is a baby or a toddler. However, as they start to grow up, some parents let their guards down. We hope that our children become wiser as they grow older, but as children become teens, they also become more prone to risky behaviors. This book also provides information about behavior that teens might hide from their parents, so that you are better equipped to identify if your child is hiding risky behavior. We hope to empower parents with the knowledge and confidence to prevent youth substance abuse and to encourage parents to be more curious, vigilant, and involved in their children’s lives.

TESTIMONIALS FROM PARENTS WHO HAVE LEARNED FROM THE HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT PRESENTATIONS

"Room decor, obscure compartments, and items to camouflage located throughout the room provide red flags and potential warning signs for parents of how teens may hide alcohol, drugs, and vaping products. Parents must take meaningful steps to address a young person’s use and change the quality of a young teen for a positive change".
- Dimpy Koul, FBISD Parent and Associate Professor, Brain Tumor Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center

“The bedroom is illuminating. It’s amazing to see how these devices have changed over past 30 years. It’s a testament to why we do the work we do.”
- Ray Andrews, Director of Houston Crackdown-Office of the Mayor

“The Hidden in Plain Sight bedroom is an eye opening experience for anyone who gets the opportunity to see it. It allows you to see the deception and ingenuity of a drug user.”
