Great Doig

Stechschulte sounds so much like I imagine Doig must have. Loved learning about his family, especially his mother. This is the only Doig book I had not read, and I am so glad it was the last. A fitting tribute.

Another wonderful book by my favorite author!

This book helps fill out the story of the early life of Ivan Doug as learned from his mother's letters. Superbly narrated as well!

I laughed out loud a few times, but was mostly in awe of Doig's ability to help me experience what he and his parents experienced during his childhood.

Any additional comments?

I love the way Doig concisely evokes a whole world of feeling; he sees such humor, poetry, and intensity in each moment and place. Somehow he notices everything.. A sweet, sad, funny memoir of his childhood and his mother.

Beautifully Written

I have read this book and also listened to the audiobook. Both readings were magical. Mr. Doig paints a beautiful picture.

A treasure from Ivan Doig

Reading this helped fill in some of Mr Doig's mystique. I will have to reread This House of Sky with a new perspective.

I love Ivan Doig. Making my way through every one of them, some twice. Decided to try the audible.com version. Tom Stechschulte was made for Doig books, or lullabies or road maps. That deep voice and his changes of character are so good. I’ll be going back to my favorite Doig books to hear Tom read them. My only criticism is the book was too short.

A story I knew the end of...

....... but now I feel it in some way I can only acknowledge with tears and not explain with any words.

The story, the detail, the real life experience...I loved every word of it and will listen again and again!

Writing

Liked it all. He is my favorite writer of all time and this is his best. It reached back to his beginning.

The Mother....

This one REALLY tugs at your heart strings. I really hated for this one to end.
