Acerca de esta escucha

In this characteristically turbocharged new book, celebrated Rolling Stone journalist Matt Taibbi provides an insider's guide to the variety of ways today's mainstream media tells us lies. Part tirade, part confessional, it reveals that what most people think of as "the news" is, in fact, a twisted wing of the entertainment business.

In the internet age, the press have mastered the art of monetizing anger, paranoia, and distrust. Taibbi, who has spent much of his career covering elections in which this kind of manipulative activity is most egregious, provides a rich taxonomic survey of American political journalism's dirty tricks.

Hate Inc. will be an invaluable antidote to the hidden poisons dished up by those we rely on to tell us what is happening in the world.

Please Matt Narrate Your Next Audiobook

Outstanding and very thoughtful look at how the legacy media operates. The author being a longtime journalist, he’s able to take you behind the curtain to show you what incentivizes these mega corporate news brands. Blue/Red there is an eye opening message for you…ur being lied too.

Hunter Thompson reborn

Fist of, hats off to the narrator, he is beyond good and sets a perfect often sarcastic tone when applicable that kept me laughing often. I admit to having not read Matt until now. He definitely leans left and often violates the very terms he sets forward in the book. However, he does appear to be very self-aware of this and often makes a funny self-comparison. I am an avid reader and have been for decades and I must say, Matt writes very similar to Hunter Thompson, those who have read books like "A Generation of Swine" or "The Great Shark Hunt" will know exactly what I mean. If you are clinging to political tribalism, this book will be hard for you. I doubt you will even finish it. If you view every issue rationally and without an ideological obsession, you will love this book. I can't stress enough how much this book reads like an old Thompson book. Good stuff

Required reading in these times

This book should be required reading before watching any news in today’s media environment. I can now look at any event that happens, apply the Ten Rules Of Hate, and know in advance whether it will be covered on the news and how each “team” will report it.

Matt Taibbi explains the massive shift that happened to news coverage. His breakdown of the situation is well structured and his explanations are well worded. The insider perspective that he brings gives it just that much more clarity.

Like Mr. Taibbi I loved “Manufacturing Consent.” I still do. But it’s quite dated now and was always, in my opinion, a bit academic for some readers. “Hate, Inc.” is very accessible and very timely.

Professional wrestling masquerading as journalism

Matt Taibbi gives an insightful and detailed argument that modern media is professional wrestling masquerading as journalism. Taibbi is on the money that sensationalism gets clicks and creating freak shows sells. Heros versus villains.

However, he speaks very little about big techs' role in it. Modern recommender systems and tech form echo chambers and faceless communication dehumanize discourse. Big tech also plays the role of censor/editor while masquerading as a neutral content distribution medium.

The corporate media in its desire to maximize profit indoctrinates people to service power and gets the victims to pay for their own victimization. Noam Chomsky referred to this as “manufacturing consent.”

Highly recommended

This is an important book. I’d recommend it to all who wish to gain an understanding of and attain some clarity on the peculiar and (for many) frightening political and economic dynamics in America today. It has something that much of the entire media spectrum today lacks: the ring of truth. Presented with great clarity and well-reasoned, thoughtful, critical analysis. People have a moral duty to educate themselves and be aware; this is a great place to start.

A must read for people wanting to better understand today’s political climate

This book is a phenomenal look into how the media’s profit incentives have put them in a position where dividing the country is the path of least resistance and it will also help give you the language to combat it

Should be required reading

Anyone who is interested in, or involved with current events, media, cultural shifts and divisions must read this book. Matt does an admirable job at identifying, investigating and describing the very salient problems in our current information landscape. These ideas are ones that I had swirling in my mind, but lacked the inside knowledge and understanding to properly formulate.

No sides are taken, no ideology is given a pass. The “left” and the “right” are both responsible for misinformed, tribalistic shift in our cultural. Certainly the electorate shares responsibility as we have, on a whole, become lazy, apathetic consumers, but we have no doubt been kicked, pushed and pulled that way by a media that no longer seeks to inform, but rather values pure attention over all else, in a new economy where time spent gazing at whatever screen translates directly into profits for conglomerates that seek to sell us more “stuff”.

Wonderful and poignant analysis. I hope Matt gets all the credit he deserves for this.
