The first three trimesters (and the fourth - those blurry newborn days) are for the baby, but the fifth trimester is when the working mom is born. No matter what the job or how you define work, you're going to have a lot of questions. When will I go back? How should I manage that initial "I want to quit" attack? Flex time or full time? How can I achieve 50/50 at home with my partner? What's the best option for childcare? Is it possible to look like I slept for eight hours instead of three? And why is there never a convenient space to pump?

This is a book for working women and mothers who are ready to release the culturally inherited belief that their worth is equal to their productivity, and instead create a personal and professional life that's based on presence, meaning, and joy. As opposed to focusing on "fitting it all in", time management, and leaning in, as so many books geared at ambitious women do, this book embraces the notion that through doing less women can have - and be - more.

For many women in their 20s and 30s, the greatest professional hurdle they'll need to overcome has little to do with their work life. The most focused, confident, and ambitious women can find themselves derailed by a tiny little thing: a new baby. While more workplaces are espousing family-friendly cultures, women are still subject to a "parenting penalty", and high-profile conflicts between parenting and the workplace are all over the news, from the controversy over companies covering the costs of egg freezing to the debate over parental leave and child care inspired by Mark Zuckerberg's two-month paternity leave.

Once the poster girl for doing it all, after she had her first child, Tiffany Dufu struggled to accomplish everything she thought she needed to in order to succeed. Like so many driven and talented women who have been brought up to believe that to have it all, they must do it all, Dufu began to feel that achieving her career and personal goals was an impossibility. Eventually, she discovered the solution: letting go. In Drop the Ball, Dufu recounts how she learned to reevaluate expectations, shrink her to-do list, and meaningfully engage the assistance of others.

Over the last 60 years, women's lives have transformed from generation to generation. Without a template to follow, women make important decisions blindly, groping for a way forward, winging it, and hoping it all works out. Whether you're deciding if you should pass up a promotion in favor of more flex time, planning when to get pregnant, or wondering what the ramifications are of being the only person in your house who ever unloads the dishwasher, The Ambition Decisions is a guide to the changes that may seem arbitrary but are life defining, by women who've been there.

We told women that to break glass ceilings and succeed in their careers, all they needed to do is dream big, raise their hands, and lean in. But data tells a different story. Historic numbers of women left their jobs in 2021, resulting in their lowest workforce participation since 1988. Women’s unemployment rose to nearly fifteen percent, and globally women lost over $800 billion in wages. Fifty-one percent of women say that their mental health has declined, while anxiety and depression rates have skyrocketed.

Without any definite, clear sense of what she wanted to do next (but an absolute certainty that what she'd been doing was no longer truly satisfying), she walked away from her dream job and into a vast unknown. Suddenly she was no longer " Marketplace's Tess Vigeland"; she was just Tess Vigeland.

'I need a wife'. It's a common joke among women juggling work and family, but it's no joke. Having a spouse who takes care of things at home is a godsend on the domestic front and an asset on the work front and is an advantage enjoyed by vastly more men than women. Full of candid and funny stories from politics and the media, The Wife Drought shares intriguing research about the attitudes pulsing beneath the surface of egalitarian Australia.

A Must Read for Guilty Feeling Moms!!
If you're a working mom, battling with guilt, this book is exactly what you need! I'm a working father that tries to find every way possible to help my wife overcome her guilty feeling about putting our 2 and 4 year olds in daycare/school. It doesn't help that all her best girlfriends are all 'stay-at-home' moms, making my wife feel even worst. My wife really enjoys working, and honestly feels like she's a better mom by getting the time away... but there is still that deep down guilt that she has when one of the kids really don't want to go to daycare that day.
I purchased this book for her, she listened to it, and it has radically changed her perspective! It brought her peace, JUST to know that she is not the only woman out there that battles with this feeling of guilt! Not only that, but this book gave her incredible tips as to how overcome some of the situations she encounters. And also helped her see things from the 'stay-at-home' perspective. It can be easy to assume that you're doing something wrong because you're working, and never consider the thought that the stay-at-home mom sometimes wonders if SHE is doing something wrong, because she is choosing to keep their child home.
Anyways, I could go on and on about this book, but I'll stop here. It's totally worth every penny, especially if you battle with guilt. We live in a different world than the generations before us, and if we refuse to accept that things change, we can beat ourselves up in ways that are unfair to ourselves.
God Bless.
