Acerca de esta escucha

A Warhammer Horror novel.

Scholar. Sorceress. Killer. Priest. Four people divided by their secrets and lies, bound together by horror, must unite their strengths to unpick a diabolical mystery to which they have but one incomprehensible clue - a single word: Mhurghast.

Listen to it because: glimpse what life looks like in Shyish, the Realm of Death, as an ancient family struggles with their place in the Mortal Realms. As it turns out, sometimes you must save yourselves.

The story: the Hollow. A lonely Shyishan town, obscured amongst wild moorland, inhabited by folk of vigilant routine. What remains of the once illustrious Gothghul family endures season upon season of monastic isolation in their castle on the hill. Aaric Gothghul, made callous by loss, shuts himself in his study and broods over arcane texts, while his strange and formidable daughter wanders the forests alone.

But when the town is threatened by a spate of sinister manifestations, the quiet formality of their days end. Worse still, the upheaval disturbs a terrible family secret - a chilling memory that Aaric has kept buried for 25 years. Now, father and daughter must set aside their differences and search for answers to an ancient curse that is somehow linked to their past. Aided by a straight-talking sharpshooter and a shrewd man of faith, they seek to fathom the forces that assail the Hollow.

Written by Anna Stephens. Narrated by Helen Keeley. Runtime nine hours and 42 minutes.

Really enjoyed this. The novel has a well-done gothic feel. The author does a great job with the atmosphere of dread and the angst the characters experience. The "Hound of Portent and Mhurghast" have all the trappings of the best monsters and makes for a nice catalyst for the story. If you are listening to the narration, Helen Keeley does an excellent job at giving the characters a real feel of desperation. This is, apparently, the first in a series of 4(?) novels and I'm very much looking forward to the next in the series. if I have any criticism, it would be that the end is more of a set up for future volumes in the series-- but again, that is not necessarily a bad thing. The ending does have a nice surprise for long term Warhammer fans...4 out of 5.

Great Start to a Promising Series

Gothgul hollow is a successful gothic horror story not just in terms of its setting, but also by themes and devices (the return of the repressed, ancient curses, characters dealing with confused or unreliable perceptions).

As a story set in the mortal realms, Gothgul Hollow begins to reveal what Murghast (a noun appearing in multiple age of sigmar horror stories) actually means while connecting with a surprising aspect of the world that was.

gothic horror in the mortal realms

Kind of slow start with action sprinkled through then gets really good about half way through till the end. Really enjoyed the book.

slow burn but pays off

Look, if you don't like campy horror, maybe most Warhammer isn't for you. Once in a while though they nail it. A+ female protagonist, whom I hope they migrate to tabletop. Multilayer supporting characters. Solid twists. Definitely leaves you ready for more.

Warhammer horror at its best

Fun adventure into unraveling a mystery. Mother would be so proud, Father has his concerns.

Don't go chasing Ghosts

The narrator sounded like she was crying the whole time. Got kind of hard to listen to.

Voice acting was kinda lame

The story is basically the set up for a much larger plot.
I will say I like the story. However it starts with the characters dealing with some unknown monster plaguing their town. Then the monster is forgotten about in order to have a plot about family secrets and a ghost, then it has all three of these things slam together for the finale.

The narrator is very good and I felt she gave each character a fitting voice. My only complaint is the voice she uses for fight scenes is the same one for emotionaly dramatic ones, which felt weird to me.

Pretty good set up for a series

Really enjoyed the story. I understand this is a horror novel, but the narrator was a little overly dramatic especially in the beginning. overall I liked the book and look forward to the next part of the series

enjoyable, but performance wasn't the best

The story kept fluctuating up and down throughout the entire first half of the book so that was pesky. However, as it drew nearer the halfway point it picked up and started leaving more questions and answers and made the way for a very interesting story. Hope to see more. 8/10

It took a while but worth it
