Acerca de esta escucha

“It was a kiss with a future in it: like a ring slipped upon her soul.”

Susy Branch (Tavi Gevinson) and Nick Lansing (Adam DiMarco) aren’t into each other, but they share a similar problem. Susy is a down-on-her-luck socialite who doesn’t want to get a real job, and Nick is a struggling writer who’s tired of tutoring the kids of the one percent. All of their wealthier friends are getting married, to seemingly lucrative results. So, Susy and Nick devise a plan: have a wedding.

First, their elaborate engagement will go viral. Next, they’ll collect gifts and a honeymoon fund, spend a year honeymooning at rich friends’ vacation homes, and use it all as content for Susy’s new influencer persona. Then, after a year or so, they’ll cash out and finally pursue their dreams.

Susy and Nick’s scheme works flawlessly—until they start to develop feelings for each other. By sharing a secret on such a public stage, they come to know each other in ways nobody else can. A romance takes shape. But are they falling in love or simply playing their assigned roles? Where do their performances as a couple end and their real feelings begin? Navigating the transactional worlds of high society and viral stardom, Nick and Susy will have to decide what they value most and if they can trust each other—if they aren’t exposed as frauds first.

Adapted from Edith Wharton’s 1922 gem of the same name, Glimpses of the Moon sharply satirizes the business of marriage and the absurdity of social media to present an inventive vision of modern love.

Starring Tavi Gevinson, Adam DiMarco, J. Smith-Cameron, Chloe Fineman, Cristin Milioti, Gina Gershon, Arturo Castro, Talene Monahon, Ross Marquand, Jordan Carlos, Naomi Fry, Jia Tolentino and Aminatou Sow ...

Hilarious specificity and observation

Loved it all. A brilliant way to bring back Wharton to contemporary time. Would love to see this adapted for the screen!

Great performances

It’s a charming adaptation of a great Edith Wharton story, and the actors absolutely nailed it, in parts big and small. Reminds me of a modern production of Shakespeare, with all the pleasures of current cultural references and echoes of the old.

Kept me on my toes

wondering, “where is this going?” Good relatable story line, a bit frustrated with their inability to communicate- realized I was too invested in this fiction 🙃 and it was over.
I really enjoyed it.

Wharton would be proud!

This is a great spin on a modern Edith Wharton! Great performance and direction. Short, but moves quickly

Fun quick listen, kinda wish it was more fleshed out that way I would’ve root more for the characters.

A lovely little story

Characters you can love, hate, and hate to love. A sweet love story. The voice actors are fantastic for their roles.

Delightful romantic comedy apt for our social media obsessed times

Sharp & smooth, nicely flowing commentary on the vacuity of current internet culture, with the requisite twist: nonchalance turning to romance !!! A thoroughly enjoyable audio book with excellent performances & ultimately lovable protagonists!

Perfect social satire

I love how the narrator speaks in an Edith Wharton voice and keeps getting interrupted by the characters. I love how this perfectly captures 2024 social media culture. I loved when one influencer told another that “lady boss” is out after a litany about how to get more engagement. The sound engineering was fantastic. The characters were funny. The voice acting on point. I wish it had been longer. And (minor spoiler) I love how the characters, although they changed, didn’t go through some huge reformation that altered their essential personalities.
