Thomas Fisher’s life was rocked by an unexpected family revelation that stripped away what he once believed about his cultural identity and community.

This journey of discovery is chronicled in “Gifts from Prometheus,” Fisher’s debut book.
Writing this story was a two-year effort, leading the author to unexpected locations, moments in history and powerful emotions. From the working-class neighborhoods of his native Boston to the deep south. From Cypress swamps on the Savannah River to the waters of Buzzard’s Bay. From the advent of the 20th century to the present.
The author’s discoveries not only exposed the lies in his past but forced him to reckon with his long-held beliefs about American culture, racial equality, and the moral rectitude of the north. They revealed the extraordinary lengths people will go to escape violence and oppression and secure a dignified life for themselves and their descendants.
Fisher’s research also helped him to find gratitude and admiration for the (previously unknown) heroes that profoundly influenced the character and trajectory of his contemporary family.
“Gifts from Prometheus” is an intensely personal reminder that it’s never too late to find belonging, vanquish personal demons, and embrace the benevolent mysteries that surround us.

After a week at sea, the weather suddenly turned, and the foursome collided with a nor’easter. They soon found themselves in the fight of their lives. Tragically, it was a fight they lost. Neither the boat nor the bodies of the men were ever recovered.
