In less than a year, Neil Peart lost both his 19-year-old daughter, Selena, and his wife, Jackie. Faced with overwhelming sadness and isolated from the world in his home on the lake, Peart was left without direction. That lack of direction lead him on a 55,000 mile journey by motorcycle across much of North America, down through Mexico to Belize, and back again. He had needed to get away, but he had not really needed a destination. His personal odyssey is chronicled with his travel adventures, meeting up with friends and family, and the grieving, thinking, crying, and storytelling of life as he rides. Along the way, he plays music from his internal jukebox, yet nothing seems to let him find peace. And without peace, all he could do was keep riding until he found it.

Thank you Neil Peart for sharing your rawness! Spoke to my soul! Fellow grief survivor after losing my husband, my daughter and my boyfriend over the past 8 years. Sure makes me want to get a motorcycle. I’ll stick to running 5ks and half marathons!

loved it

loved hearing about this adventurous and sometimes hard story from one of my favorite drummers of all time. Definitely a great read. And the narration was fun to listen to.

Tremendously Inspiring

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely worth listening to. Understand that this is less about the ride than it is about the healing he was undertaking. While he did describe the riding and the traveling, he offered the listener more insight into what he was going through. Emotional story and once again, the motorcycle comes to the rescue. But again, it's not about the bike and the road as much as it is about the ride.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ghost Rider?

His trip into the Arctic Circle. Amazing.

What does Brian Sutherland bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a good job, a "good" job. If I were to give one criticism it would be that his narration was bland and sometimes monotone. When he did attempt to add some inflection or affect on his voice it lacked a feeling of genuine and seemed forced.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Duh, "Travels on the Healing Road"

for the riders, for those who have lost

I am a rider and also a husband to someone who has 2 people in her life who are severely affected by cancer. I am not sure how we will cope with the loss of these two someday, but this story gives me hope that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Flowed quickly. Made you feel like you were riding along with the Ghost Rider the whole time.

dry at times , but a good listen

I found this book to be very interesting in regards to the amount of detail and exploration that Neil was dealing with after the death of his wife and daughter. his journey on a motorcycle was a great exploration into his personal self-discovery after such a tremendous tragedy and loss

Such a tormented soul. An amazing journey that the words made you feel like you were along for the ride. Rest In Peace Neil.

Beautifully Written & Narrated

I lavished over this Poetry of a Book over many nights when I wasn’t sure I could sleep. It is the Author’s “Healing Road’” that for me flowed out as a comforting lullaby of consolation to my soul. The Journey of Survival the Author takes in order to remain among the living in spite of relentless bereaving exhales strength and hope. A willingness to keep riding on until the aimless road finally gets somewhere. I loved this memoir. The Narrator could not have been more perfect, more soothing, What a perfect coupling of thought and expression. I could listen to this Narrator read the phone book.

An great book. Not what I expected, but so much better. He was an amazing man who lived an amazing life.

This is a wonderful story of redemption! The narrator did a wonderful job of reflecting the tone of the book, including the author’s various letters to friends and other acquaintances. The details of the various places the author visited made the trip come alive! I really found the ending beautiful and worth the time I took to listen to it. Thanks NEP!
