Convinced that the states must be bound together with a firm federal hand, Washington pushes for reform. A new convention of the states in 1788 ratified the Constitution that Americans revere to this day. And Americans chose as their leader the only man who could successfully launch this audacious creation and inspire unity. Once again George Washington became the center of the world’s attention as the first president of the United States of America.
