interesting concept

it was all good i found myself looking forwards to listening each day and i enjoyed it greatly...

Great Second installment to this series.

this was great. continues the world building and interesting interactions with the charactors. will be getting the 3rd book. My only conplaint is the narrator lacks range or emotion in parts that could really help the story.

Book 2 keeps me heavily invested

I am a brand new fan to Marc, with the Lost Legio IX audiobook being my first exposure. I absolutely loved book 1 so much that it was a no-brainer for me to start book 2. With Karus established, book 2 does a wonderful job at continuing the story from book 1. This is deeper dive into the world that Karus exists in, and I don’t want to spoil anything so I will leave it as book 2 is just as amazing as book 1. Marc has such a wonderful writing ability to help me paint the images in my head of what he is describing, whether it be landscapes, people, or action, such as battle. His style brings me into the same Witcher or LotR feelings which I absolutely love. I have already downloaded book 3 and I am looking forward to my daily drives to and from work!

Good but

It’s a great story, but why do I feel like I’ve heard this entire story before. Everything sounds familiar…. I’m calling out stuff before it happens and it just came out….

Way too much focus on faith in Jupiter

Becomes a thinly veiled religious thing where all that really matters is that you have faith Jupiter (who is also Zeus and undoubtedly a stand-in for the good old Judeo-Christian god).

Also aggravating are the constant inter-species squabbles where nobody trusts anyone but their own group.

Slow

The point of a Roman related book is almost exclusively the Roman legion. Which we see little of in this book. Without that there is not much to hold the reader’s attention.
