Das zweite Gesicht: Ein mysteriöser Mordfall treibt den Gendarmen Karl Gruber erstmalig dazu, den Psychoanalytiker Sigmund Freud aufzusuchen. Die Tochter des Leiters des Wiener Burgtheaters wurde ermordet und die Umstände ihres Todes sind grausig: Die Leiche ist blutleer. Der Ermittler Gruber hegt einen Verdacht: In Wien treibt ein Vampir sein Unwesen. Sigmund Freud ist mehr als herausgefordert, dem Aberglauben ein Ende zu setzen und den wahren Täter zu überführen.
Familienersatz: Ein neuer Patient wird kurzfristig bei Sigmund vorstellig. Die Sitzung nimmt jedoch schon frühzeitig einen dramatischen Verlauf, als der Mann eine Waffe zieht: Er habe seinen Vater am Vortag ermordet und verlange vom Professor Absolution. Während Anna Karl herbeizitiert und beide angespannt vor dem Therapiezimmer beratschlagen, was man tun kann, um die Geiselnahme zu beenden, versucht Sigmund mit den Mitteln des Therapeuten, den Mann zur Aufgabe zu überreden, bevor ein Unglück geschieht.
Versehrung: Schüsse hallen eines frühen Morgens durch Wiens Straßen. Ein Schütze hat sich auf einem Kirchturm verschanzt und bedroht jeden, der sich auf dem Platz unter ihm zeigt. Gendarm Karl Gruber kann Freud überreden, ihn bei einer diplomatischen Lösung der Situation zu unterstützen. Sigmund Freud setzt alles daran, den Schützen von seinem Vorhaben abzubringen, bevor es zu einem Blutvergießen kommt.
Stimulus: Sigmund Freud wird verdächtigt, eine Patientin vergewaltigt zu haben. Die junge Frau befindet sich im Wachkoma und spricht kein Wort. Die Staatsanwaltschaft führt die Ermittlungen gegen Freud und es mangelt nicht an Zeugen, die geneigt sind, gegen den Professor auszusagen...
