An Extraordinary, Honest, Interesting Journey of Faith

I loved hearing about Eric’s life. He has had such an interesting one so far and I wish I knew him personally as his probing, thoughtful mind seem so rare in today’s world. He and I are the same age and I have a few friends who were classmates of his at Yale (I do not know if they are acquainted).but his explanations of the cultural”elites” further exemplifies why even at a young age, I wanted to move out of the bubble of the DC establishment and am happily ensconced on a horse farm in the sunny south. My only criticism at all was the author’s reading of this work. His constant pauses for emphasis really drove me nuts and was unnecessary. If he had used this device rarely for emphasis, fine. But continually made me tense and irritated. BUT, the book and its message was so wonderful, it did not matter. A wonderful journey of faith.

READ IT!

I often hesitate to read books that try to tell us what God has done in someone’s life because they tend to become preachy and doctrinally dogmatic. In fact, I avoided this book for a long time even though I’ve read Eric Metaxas’ books, and I appreciate his writing.

Now let me tell you about THIS book. It is about a real person being drawn by a real God into his place in the world. There are so many parts of Eric Metaxas’ life that made me laugh out loud because he is so witty in telling the struggles of the stages of childhood through young adult life that most people have experienced. Woven throughout the book is the thread of God patiently showing Himself in simple ways until His love broke through in this man’s life. This is the real deal…no gimmicks, no preaching, no doctrine, just God, REALLY GOD.

Funny and engaging

I enjoyed Eric’s reading of his life story, which includes his candid recollection of some embarrassing and poignant moments. As a bonus at the end he reads some poetry, including some of his own writing.

The best I’ve read

Mr. Metaxas’s life was so incredibly interesting, he oh so carefully described very sensitive topics. The whole book was one incredible story after another. I look forward to reading more by him.

Enjoyed thoroughly

A writer I am not so m review will not go into great detail. I enjoyed this book and loved hearing the author read it! Nostalgic. Eric, through his words took me to each place he wrote about. The most hilarious was on the train with the Frenchman!! I’m hoping 2 of my sons will listen to this book, Eric’s humor and dialog I believe they will enjoy and appreciate.

Fantastic and hilarious and deep

I have loved and appreciated Eric Metaxas for years but it was really a delight to listen to his book… His first chapter of his life… There were many laugh out loud moments often followed by heart grabbing, sentimental and serious questions and experiences. I love when an author reads his own book for audible! He or she just knows exactly the tone of voice that they meant it in and there’s just nothing like it! Eric is an incredibly talented writer!
