good book, great performance.
Book has very similar vibes to Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket. It has great characters and worldbuilding, but you are going to be shown the worst of humanity and the galaxy.

One of the best writers in the setting.
No one does it like Fehervari. Just a great story, and very well told. Narrator did a very good job as well.

Elevating 40k
Peter really crushed this, fantastic book. Once the ball gets rolling, it seems to never stop gaining momentum. The dreadful reality of Phaedra seems to seep out of the pages and infect the listener as we move through the intertwined fates of the 19th Arkan and Commissar Iveson. Fehervari is really setting himself apart with a different flavor of grimdark that is honestly perfect for the 40k setting. Performance was spot on as well, not sure if Iveson could be done any better.

Incredible story!
An incredibly gripping tale about the horrors of war in an endlessly dark universe as seen from the many different eyes of the average soldier. Set on a swamp planet along the boarder edge of the realms of the Imperium of Man, the forces of humanity are sent to fight and die in an endless struggle over one world that the holds little significance. This story depicts the brutality and uncaring nature of war alongside the insidiousness and corrupting nature of chaos and madness, both real and imagined. An incredible story of how the road to damnation is paved with the best of intentions and where humanity continues to be the root cause of most of its problems. I absolutely love this book!

A feverish delve into madness borrowing from Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now
One of the greatest Warhammer novels ever written; a tale of broken men on a hell world fighting their demons (and losing), non-stop in its heightened narrative and uncompromising vision for the grimdarkness of the far future. The ending was the weakest part of the story, but the journey is worth it.

One of the new legends of Black Library
Peter Fehervari is a new addition to Black Library’s roster, but he “gets” the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium in a way few authors do. I’ve read this story multiple times, and it was a treat to experience in audiobook form.
Fire Caste reminds me of a 40k retelling of “Apocalypse Now”, but dialed up to 11 with post-Civil War Americana Imperial Guard fighting with Steampunk tech against T’au led VC stand-in indigenes, to a backdrop of war crimes on a daemon-haunted, diseased world. You really get a sense of the madness of the 41st Millennium, and there are no heroes.
Fehervari is, in this reviewer’s opinion, one of the greats of the Black Library, and in this debut novel he really comes out swinging.

One of the most insane 40k stories ever
Basically, everyone in this story has major mental problems. And the way they all keep functioning is the main draw of this story. Enjoyable narration and in-depth psychiatric examinations abound in this book. Enjoy!

More Fehevari, please!
One of the best BL books committed to paper.
A loving homage to Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now with a Warhammer spin.
Fehevari is just an incredible author and story teller, and Andrew James Spooner did an incredible jobs bringing that story to life.
Give us more Fehevari weirdness!
