Outwardly, my life was rocking. As a sportscaster at ESPN, I've traveled the world, attending the most prestigious sporting events, and meeting all sorts of famous people. I have great friends, and women whenever I want them, but I miss the little girl I helped raise and still adore. Missy was beautiful and smart, but her relentless ambition and cool demeanor were off-putting as hell. She had an underlying vulnerability that hinted she was not all she pretended to be. At first, she came off as a shrew with a serious aversion to men, but there was underlying pain in her eyes that went deeper, and I was determined to find out the reason.
When I discovered Missy's single-minded ferociousness to succeed was driven by a painful past and a little boy named Dylan, the protector in me kicked in and I was drawn to her even more...like a moth to a flame.

This was hard to review because I loved the first book. Spoiler: The story could triggered some people who experienced domestic abuse. The subject did not bother me but the heroine just didn't have backbones and allowed the ex to call her all sort of names after she left him and made a life for herself. Yet, when the hero treated her like a queen, she spoke to him like the ex did to her. Basically, she conflicted her own believe. She had people to help but she so " proud" and didn't take the offer. Instead, she allowed the ex to stalk and threatened her life. I just can't take this kind of heroine. I purchased this with a credit thinking I will love this story as much as the first. I was wrong. If you can take " proud" heroine, then you may enjoy this story. I will return book 2. The narrators did superb job. Without these dual, I wouldn't be able to finish this story.

Ok until close to the ending.....
At about 3 + hours left, the MFC started to cower again. She had people who were supporting her & she chose to go it alone & put her son in jeopardy 🤨 with regards to her ex. That's a NO! Narration was ok.
