Nachdem er zum Markgrafen de Valier ernannt wurde, bricht Max zu einem Feldzug auf. Er begleitet die königliche Armee unter der Führung des Herzogs de Clairmont, des Marschalls von Vestonia. Hier herrschen die atalianischen Legionen unter dem Kommando von Ricardo di Lorenzo, genannt der Goldene Löwe. Er ist der bekannteste und erfolgreichste aller Kommadeure des atalianischen Königs Alfonso V.
