Fear is the story of the twisted events leading up to his father's incarceration. As the Tiefenthalers settle into their home, they become increasingly disturbed as Dieter's strange behavior turns malevolent. Randolph unravels the tale of Dieter's harassment - the erotic letters he sends to Rebecca, his spying, his accusations of child abuse, the police reports he filed against them. Finally, Randolph admits his own feelings of desperation and helplessness, which ultimately lead to his father's intervention.
As Randolph plumbs the depths of his own uncertainty surrounding the murder - pondering fundamental questions about masculinity, violence, and the rule of law - his reliability is slowly but irrevocably called into doubt. The result is an unsettling meditation on middle-class privilege and "civilized life" that builds to a shocking conclusion.

Marina and Lee is one of the best and truest audiobooks about the Kennedy assassination. Priscilla Johnson McMillan came to the story with a unique knowledge of the two main characters. In the 1950s she knew Kennedy well for a time when he was hospitalized with Addison's disease. She talked to him frequently, brought him books, knew his wife, and formed a strong opinion of the sort of man he was. What is astonishing is that she also knew Lee Harvey Oswald.

I bought this book because the blurb reported high sales in many lands. High sales don't mean well written. You may like "beach reads" but I find them irritating. And this is a beach read.
