Very dark and graphic

Good narration and story line but too graphic with unnecessary detail. Ending was good resolution. I hope to see more about Balinger, Rathbone and Margaret in the next book.

I am getting used to the new narrator. I still had to play this at 1.2.

I am not fond of the new narrator. I do understand that Davina Porter cannot do all the books I like but it is so different with this new one. Story is good and moves at a good pace.

Happy to be continuing the series...

This series just continues to delight.
The narrator is in perfect synch with the author and delivers her material with a nuance that amazes me.
The characters are so well developed that I feel as if I were with them, tearing around Victorian England, having the time of my life.

one oh my favorite books!

I loved this story. Monk and Hester...the emotional upheaval from beginning to end..a story of courage, honor right or wrong.. razor thin...

Emotional

This story was full of tons of personal drama shared by all of the main characters. This eventually spilled over to the secondary characters. It was almost painful to read. The situation surrounding the trial was emotionally exhausting. There was an atmosphere of betrayal that affected me as I read the story. That is how well this author draws her readers into a story. The suspense was rampant throughout the story, right up to the abrupt ending that left me wanting more.

Painful and powerful this was a story that unfortunately even happens today.

A lot of truths had to be faced and as usual Anne pulls us completely into the story. Perfect narration

The suspense is very tight.

I like the continuity Perry uses when creating scenes around the characters. The story continues seamlessly.

One of Perry’s best works

The court scene was intriguing, I binged listened to the book. I’ve been jaded lately with a lot of long-winded books. But this really caught my attention I enjoyed it.

Good story, known characters, rich descriptions of mid 19 th century life, just a bit pinched off ending
