Everyone should read this book.

It is a shame that the people who should listen to this Audio book never will since they do not care.

The lessons from The Holocaust will never get old and we who hope the memory of its victims will never be forgotten.All of us should hope it changes the behavior of those who simply can not stop hating others who are different from them.

The Narrator had a soft and sensitive performance that was perfect for this book.

This audiobook is supposed to take up the Holocaust story where Anne Frank's diary ended. The author knew Anne as a child, then after the war her mother married Anne's father. That was something I didn't know. Very detailed descriptions of life during the war.



The narration was well done, by Ann Richardson.

Wonderful, sad, uplifting heartwarming story!

It's hard to know what to say about this story. When Eva is describing her family life, parts of it made me smile. However, when she described the horrors she went through, it made me cry knowing this was more than just a fictional story, but actually happened. The narrator was great, bringing the story to life, and narrating with emotion. Even though, it was horrible, and dreadful, Eva manages to inject some hope and be thankful for the little things that happened. I also thought the interview at the end was a wonderful touch. Will be reading her other book that's available in audio soon. I would highly recommend this book, and I hope people read this and learn something. The details Ava gives is incredible! Her story is captiving I couldn't stop listening! I love how she includes stories of her family and what they went through while separated. Amazing!

Eva’s Story

Eva Schloss posthumously became Anne Frank’s stepsister in postwar years, when her mother married Otto Frank. And while that connection may be what draws us in as readers, “Eva’s Story” is very much its own story, quite different from Anne’s.
Anne herself shows up minimally in early chapters, and her diary shows up in the later chapters, but the bulk of the book is about Eva and her mother, as concentration camp prisoners.
The interesting thing about a memoir such as this is that even though it has similarities to other works, instead of seeming like a repeat it feels like a unique, rich, powerful addition to the bigger story of the Holocaust.
I received a free copy of the audiobook version of “Eva’s Story” from the publisher, in exchange for writing this review, and I can say that I am glad to have received it and to have listened to it.

Hate the narration

I cannot stand the narrator's voice. She sounds like the computer-generated voice they use for social media posts. Awful choice for such a fascinating story. I will finish it because I am very interested in it, but it will be a miserable journey.

Absolutely beautiful

I enjoyed Eva’s Story so much. Such a beautifully written detailed remembrance of a first hand account. The audio reading was very well done, flowed perfectly and put me there as I listened. This is an important piece of history. I am so glad I received this for my unbiased review, it will be on my top list of recommendations!

A Unique and Moving Account of WWII

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Eva's Story is written by Eva Schloss and Evelyn Julia Kent, and it tells the story of Eva and her family during WWII. They were Austrian Jews who fled to Holland after the start of WWII. They managed to stay hidden for some time, but they are eventually captured by the Germans and sent to an internment camp. Eva tells her story in a revealing, intimate manner. She doesn't succumb to a despairing tone that oftentimes accompanies WWII memoirs. Instead she shares both the good times and the bad, and she delivers an engaging and uplifting story in the process.

Eva, her parents and her brother fled from Austria in 1938 after the Germans invaded the country. They traveled to Amsterdam to find refuge. When the Germans invaded Amsterdam in 1940, they hid in various homes. They were betrayed and given up to the Germans in 1944. The Germans sent them to Birkenau, where they were separate by gender and sent to separate camps. Eva and her mother tell of their struggles, fears and triumphs in the camp. They run into friends and family from their old life who help them survive. Eva's account isn't overly negative or despairing. She gives facts and details as they were, and she shares her emotions and reactions to each event. Although towards the end of the book Eva's explains that she experienced great bitterness after the war, that tone is not present in this novel. As a result, this work never grows overly sad or melancholic. The events were tragic indeed, but Eva shares them in a matter-of-fact way. Eva details some of her life after the war, which is a topic that's oftentimes neglected in works focused around WWII. Overall, she presents a sad but heartwarming tale of struggle and survival.

Ann Richardson does a fantastic job with her narration of Eva's story. Her voice and dialect perfectly fit that of a young woman. She's completely believable as Eva Schloss; she makes it easy to get lost in this story. Eva finds herself in many surprising and appalling events throughout the story, and Richardson narrates them in a convincing manner. She conveys just enough emotion and conviction to match each situation. And her voice is never grating or tiresome. She adds an extra level of of impact to this work that could've easily been lost with a lesser narrator.

Eva's Story is oftentimes a terrifying and gruesome book detailing one of the darkest times in human history. But it is also a story about overcoming adversity, prevailing through the most difficult situations and finding hope when there seems to be none. Eva is an inspiring person who overcame so much. She blessed the world with this work, and it should be experienced by everyone.

Engrossing and heartbreaking

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by these authors.
This is a compelling, heartbreaking book. Eva, along with her family, were arrested and taken to the concentration camps created the Nazis. We get a bit of insight into their lives before the Nazi takeover, their flight into hiding, their unimaginable arrest and confinement, and the hardships endured each day until their release. They were among the “lucky” ones. The the book also gives us insight to those that died at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators. There are moments where the kindness of strangers is evident. We also see a glimpse at the fear the Nazis instilled in the population of those they’d taken over. No matter how willing to help, often there was a line that was crossed into self-preservation.
I like how there were also a few chapters from Eva‘s mother’s perspective.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Ann Richardson ) and I would listen to another. I think she did a great job narrating this book. She instilled emotion and I was engrossed in the book from beginning to end.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessively described violence or swearing.

Great book to listen to. We usually know all about her sister story, but sadly the war has many other stories and Eva’s is a great example of it.
