Acerca de esta escucha
Who’s your biggest enemy? Possibly you?
Enemy mode is an immensely damaging brain state that occurs in everyday life. In enemy mode, a person sees and experiences others as adversaries. Living in this mode poisons family and community bonds. It contributes to social stress, business failure, divorce, alienation, domestic violence, crime, racism, and international violence. Social media magnifies the impact of enemy mode toward almost all topics or persons imaginable.
Longtime author and neuropsychologist Dr. Jim Wilder explains how the brain develops enemy mode and searches for ways to get the brain to “refriend.” Since a brain in enemy mode cannot tell when someone is trying to help, it rejects or attacks its allies, including refrienders. Wilder puts his years of research to the test in assessing the impossible task put forth by the Christian faith: to love one’s enemies.
After being trained in enemy mode through the military, business, and even friendships, retired Brigadier General Ray Woolridge comes alongside Wilder, bringing the listener on his journey of learning to refriend. He interviews leaders in sports, business, the military, law enforcement, politics, health care, and education, assessing the enemy mode impact on lives and culture.
Can Wilder and Woolridge figure out how enemy mode works and craft a solution? And can they get people and institutions to implement those solutions? This audiobook is for all who desire to be better equipped to face the barrage of daily relational stressors that come at them. It’s for all who long for more harmonious relationships at home, in the workplace, and in their communities.

For many Christians, the delight of encountering Christ eventually dwindles - and disappointment sets in. Is lasting joy possible? These are some of the questions Michel Hendricks has considered both in his experience as a spiritual formation pastor and in his lifetime as a Christian.

Why do we sometimes feel more connected in our relationships than at other times? Perhaps you sometimes find it easy and exciting to spend time with your loved ones - but sometimes, especially when things don’t according to plan, you feel incapable of connecting in conversations. You then feel distant from those you love most. What if the answer to remaining connected in relationships has been right under your nose - or, rather, right inside your head all along?

As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

We're all infected with a spiritual disease. Its name is shame. Whether we realize it or not, shame affects every aspect of our personal lives and vocational endeavors. It seeks to destroy our identity in Christ, replacing it with a damaged version of ourselves that results in unhealed pain and brokenness. But God is telling a different story for your life. Psychiatrist Curt Thompson unpacks the soul of shame, revealing its ubiquitous nature and neurobiological roots. He also provides the theological and practical tools necessary to dismantle shame.

Historia
Christianity has tended to focus on right beliefs and right choices as the keys for personal growth. But biblical evidence and modern brain science show that our character is shaped more by whom we love than what we believe. Through conversations he had with Dallas Willard at the Heart and Soul Conference shortly before Dallas' death, Jim Wilder shows how we can train our brains to relate to God based on joyful, mutual attachment - which leads to emotional and spiritual maturity as our identity and character are formed by our relationship with God.

Very thought provoking
Complex and thoughtful at the same time. Good information that would be helpful for all to consider and apply. A little dry to get through. The personal stories were helpful to understand the concepts presented.

Hope in relational restoration
This book is both cutting edge for clinical practice as well as cuts to the heart of every persons experience. I only have rave reviews about this book. The lens it sees the world and human value through is unmatched, refined and pure. It puts understandable language & personalized stories to the revolutionary idea of “love your enemies” [Jesus]. Although it is primarily research with a study group of Christians - this book is for everyone and will revolutionize the way you experience yourself and own your stuff in relationship to everyone and everything around you.

A needed book for ALL people
Enemy mode is something that all of us have experienced the pain of and all of us have given pain while we have been in it. Jim and Ray have done extensive research and interviews to validate and explain the types and impacts of enemy mode thinking and behaviors. Escaping enemy mode is something that is capable and needed by all l people and solutions are available in this book. This book is especially needed for Christian leaders who care for becoming more like Jesus themselves and/or want those they lead to do so. I was personally touched by the vulnerability both authors in sharing their own ongoing journey to escape mode thinking for them and their groups.

bogged down in detail that's in their other books
loved other books with Jim Wilder, but this is repetitive and not as helpful in actually escaping enemy mode as other books. Even in the middle and latter chapters when I was hoping for straight forward, "here's what we do about it" - there's some help - but they clutter it with repeating the brain science.
