Killing Characters You Love

Spoiler Alert

Sniped?!?! Really?!?! You give hundreds of pages to make us love them to end their lives so unceremoniously? I get that almost everyone had to die, but with a sniper shot from a dude with Tourette's!?!? I almost stopped the book at that point. This was a great series with a rushed ending.

A SciFi trilogy that beats AVATAR

This series was fantastic and this installment of James Frey's The Endgame was the most tightly packed edition with twists and turns and completely unsuspecting resolutions. It was exciting to the end and the visualizations put me there with the hopeful 12 that played what was Endgame. Lie, Cheat, Steal, Kill: this is Endgame.

Disappointing Ending

I loved the book, but the ending was a let down. I had heard that going into the book, but I needed to complete the series.

Anticlimactic Rushed Ending

***Spoilers*** Stop at book 2 and use your imagination instead. The first two books were great, building up a lot of potential, but in the end things fizzled out. Specifically frustrating was the concentrated character slaughter in the later part of the book. Up to that point, most player deaths were in battle, or part of a larger event, but in this book several players were just here one moment, gone the next. Also, the side-cult just faded out. There was a lot of potential for development there, but with how quickly they were snuffed out, the brotherhood seemed more like an afterthought. I'm all for nihilism and understand the theme of meaningless amoral destruction, but much of the strong character storylines just stopped in a forced and abrupt manner. Also, have I been pronouncing Himalayas and Calcutta wrong my entire life???

Performance amazing; Story meh..

I enjoyed the voice actor throughout these three books! The deaths in this book felt somewhat rushed/uncreative…

first book is the best

the first book I was totally hooked the other 2 books in this series were just ok.i think the game within this book was very cool to bad I was late to that party but I enjoyed these books

What’s next...

I didn’t solve the puzzle but I did fill my appetite with final installment of the series.kept me engaged and wanting more. Seems the game never ends with this story

A story.

Has Endgame: Rules of the Game turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. Maybe I'm setting the bar too high, since I'm an adult reading a young adult book. Maybe the greatness of Harry Potter, Hunger Games et al, have spoiled it for the other books in this genre.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator has a lisp. Impressive diversity of voices, but still tough to listen to.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Endgame: Rules of the Game?

There are no scenes to cut, just story to add.

You're kind of trapped into listening to this if you've done the first two. But at the end of it all, one realizes the author(s) are actually only good at writing fight scenes. The fight scenes were great, but the story is silly and character development almost nonexistent. Plot holes you could drive a truck through. Characters introduced and killed for no apparent reason. Characters acting contrary to their described abilities and inclinations. The list goes on...
