Hebert Poll Gutiérrez lo escribió junto a su madre, Gladys Felicia Gutiérrez Rodríguez, quien le contaba estos relatos cuando él era chico. Hay en este libro un gesto de preservación/reelaboración de la cultura afrocubana, que encuentra una vuelta de tuerca en la mirada humana sobre los dioses y sus aventuras, a veces francamente disparatadas.
Hebert Poll Gutiérrez (Matanzas, 1977) se define a sí mismo como "un verdadero hijo de Cuba que no olvida sus raíces a pesar de que actualmente vive en Calgary, Canadá". Es escritor, narrador, comediante, dramaturgo, guionista, investigador. Ha participado en distintos proyectos escénicos y audiovisuales.
Entre sus obras literarias para niños, jóvenes y adultos cabe destacar Emi Laará (2004), Cosas de un niño grande (2012, segunda edición 2020), El asesino de la Luna (2014) y ¿Cuba, qué linda es Cuba? (2020).
Gladys Felicia Gutiérrez Rodríguez (Matanzas, 1955-2009) es profesora de danza, poetisa, escritora e investigadora. Su obra ha sido publicada en antologías de Estados Unidos, España, Uruguay y Cuba. Entre ellas destacan: Revista Griot (Venice, USA), Antología de las Religiones del Caribe (Universidad de York, Canadá, 2006), ¿Los dioses hablan? (Ed. Portilla, USA, 2012). Representó a Cuba en el Encuentro Mundial de Mujeres Poetas, México 2005.
