En «El otro», el propio Borges se encuentra con su alter ego. «Ulrica» -su único relato de amor- cuenta la historia de un enamoramiento en apariencia efímero. «El Congreso» describe una empresa tan vasta que se confunde con el cosmos. «Undr» y «El espejo y la máscara» imaginan literaturas que constan de una sola palabra. «El libro de arena», en cambio, se centra en un volumen de incalculables hojas, monstruoso, que anida en la Biblioteca Nacional de Buenos Aires: sin principio ni fin, infinito y eterno como toda la obra borgeana.
