Wende Freriks staat op een keerpunt in haar leven: ze is gestopt met haar opleiding en is totaal onverwacht gedumpt door haar vriend. In een opwelling boekt ze twee weken vakantie op een waddeneiland, om het einde van haar relatie te verwerken en te bedenken wat ze nou eigenlijk wil met haar leven.
In Grote Vis, de enige strandtent op het eiland, raakt ze aan de praat met de eigenaar Axel en zijn beste vriend Vincent. De twee zijn tegenpolen: zo vrolijk en flirterig als surfer Vincent is, zo serieus en ontoegankelijk is Axel. Nu ze er toch is helpt Wende de twee her en der met een klusje, en al snel komt ze er dagelijks, raken ze echt bevriend en lijkt haar oude leven heel ver weg. Behalve oprechte vriendschap voelt Wende ook iets anders voor de stugge Axel, al wil ze daar nog niet te veel over nadenken nu haar nieuw verworven vrijheid net een beetje begint te wennen. Tot haar ex ineens voor haar neus staat en alles op zijn kop zet...
