Acerca de esta escucha

Can it be right to persist in a bigamous marriage? Mr. Peacocke, a classical scholar, has come to Broughtonshire with his beautiful American wife to live as a schoolmaster. But when the blackmailing brother of her first husband - a reprobate from Louisiana - appears at the school gates, their dreadful secret is revealed and the county is scandalised.

With its scathing depiction of American manhood, it's jousting with convention, and its amiable, egotistical protagonist, Dr Wortle's School is one of the sharpest and most engaging of Trollope's later novels.

Timothy West is the Ideal Trollope reader

I’ve listened to over a dozen Anthony Trollope audiobooks read by Timothy West and have enjoyed his performance of each and all of them. A great pleasure to hear his interpretation of the works.

Riveting modern day conflict

Navigating moral issues, the doctor must accept the destruction of his life’s work of a notable school. Mr. Peacock likewise must accept with courage the chance to right wrongs.

Delightful !

As always Trollope never disappoints. I’ve read them all and
treasure them. The Barchester Chronicles are my favorite.

What a beautiful book

Just finished and miss the characters already— none without fault, but all the more real for it. Kindness, shame, dignity, hope— deeply and yet lightheartedly explored, with little sensation of it being in a very different time.

Great storytelling!

Anthony Trollope did an amazing job of showing the imperfections of Dr. Wortle and his kindness simultaneously—even if the kindness was for something as superficial as beauty. I love the story!
