Don Quijote holt seinen alten Klepper aus dem Stall, gibt ihm den klangvollen Namen Rosinante, stellt sich notdürftig eine Rüstung zusammen und bricht auf.
Don Quijote wurde vom Osloer Nobelinstitut 2002 als "Das beste Buch der Welt" prämiert.
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedras Lebensweg war abenteuerlich: Er schlug sich als Steuereinnehmer und Soldat durch, wurde bei Lepanto schwer verwundet und von Piraten gefangen. Unheimlicher Schlusspunkt: Er starb mit 69 Jahren verschuldet an genau demselben Tag wie Shakespeare, am 23. April 1616.
