Emma hat einen Monat Zeit, um das Haus fertig zu stellen, bevor ihre Gäste eintreffen – eine Aufgabe, die durch die Entdeckung erschwert wird, dass sie versehentlich einen riesigen, unmöglich zu bändigenden Hund mit erworben hat. Und dann ist da noch der abweisende Nachbar Aidan, den Emma notgedrungen um Hilfe bittet. Während Emma und Aidan zusammenarbeiten, kommen sie sich näher – doch dann muss Aidan abreisen und Emma allein weitermachen.
Im Laufe des Sommers sieht Emma sich mit unvorhergesehenen Problemen konfrontiert und schließt neue Freundschaften – und so ganz nebenbei muss sie auch noch irgendwie ihr Geschäft über Wasser halten. Ins idyllische Lobster Bay verliebt sie sich im Handumdrehen, aber hat sie sich am Ende auch in Aidan verliebt?
Annie Robertson wurde in London zur klassischen Musikerin ausgebildet und arbeitete dann als Assistentin für einen Oscar-Preisträger, einen gefeierten Künstler, einen PR-Mogul und einen Beatle. Nachdem sie mehrere Jahre lang Botengänge für die Reichen und Berühmten erledigt hatte, studierte sie Medizin, wo sie, während sie Romane in Anatomie-Lehrbüchern versteckte, ihre wahre Leidenschaft für das Schreiben entdeckte und einen Master in Kreativem Schreiben mit Auszeichnung abschloss.
Annie hat vor kurzem ihre eigene Pension in einem wunderschönen Küstenort in Schottland gekauft, das sie zu ihrer Lobster Bay-Serie inspiriert hat. Wenn sie nicht gerade schreibt, spielt sie gern Klavier, geht mit ihrem Sohn schwimmen und besucht mit ihrem Mann Antiquitätenmärkte.
