Die falschen Excellenzen. Humoreske von Karl May ist eine frühe Erzählung Karl Mays. Die Humoreske wurde erstmals im Februar und März 1878 im 2. Jahrgang der von Peter Rosegger herausgegebenen Monatsschrift Heimgarten veröffentlicht. Dies war die einzige Veröffentlichung zu Mays Lebzeiten. Entstanden ist der Text vermutlich 1877.
Inhalt: Die früheren Freunde Werner in Ebersbach und Franke in Limberg befinden sich im Rechtsstreit. Beide sind Gasthofbesitzer und das Gasthaus "Zu den drei Schwanen", das jetzt Franke gehört, war einst im Besitz von Werner. Über die damals vereinbarten Bedingungen gibt es keine Beweise und der Prozess schleppt sich seit Jahren. Als endlich der letzte entscheidende Gerichtstermin ansteht, findet Werner das Dokument wieder und glaubt den Sieg sicher. Der Schauspieldirektor Uhlewald bietet dem Schwanenwirth nun Hilfe an. Er verkleidet sich und seinen Souffleur als Bismarck und Moltke und besucht den Gastwirt Werner "inkognito". Dieser war früher Sozialdemokrat, ist jetzt aber begeisterter Bismarck-Verehrer geworden und von der Anwesenheit der hohen Herren so begeistert, dass er sich von ihnen zu Beratungen und Geländebegehungen hinzuziehen lässt, so den Gerichtstermin versäumt und damit den Prozess verliert. Als er die Wahrheit erfährt, versöhnt er sich mit Franke und beider Kinder dürfen heiraten, womit die umstrittene Summe ohnehin in der Familie bleibt.
