Kosmos Humboldt!
Der Kosmos von Alexander von Humboldt gilt als eines der einflussreichsten Wissenschaftsbücher des 19. Jahrhunderts. Es handelt sich dabei um ein in Umfang und Inhalt monumentales Werk, dessen Titel bereits die Größe des Vorhabens eindeutig erkennen lässt, nämlich nichts weniger als eine Gesamtschau der wissenschaftlichen Welterforschung der damaligen Zeit zu liefern.
So bekannt dieses Werk, so unbekannt - jedenfalls heute - die Kosmos-Vorträge, die Alexander von Humboldt bereits etliche Jahre vor Beginn der Niederschrift seines Lebenswerks in der Singakademie in Berlin hielt. Gehalten von Herbst 1827 bis zum Frühjahr 1828 entfaltet Humboldt darin skizzenhaft das Tableau, das er später im seinem "Kosmos" als Werk weiter entfalten und vertiefen wird. Seine Kosmos-Vorträge waren damals DAS Ereignis in Berlin und zogen zu jeder Vorlesung mehrere hundert Zuhörer aus allen Schichten der damaligen Berliner Gesellschaft an.
In einem zum sprachlichen Stil der Vorträge nüchternen, sachlichen Ton hat der Sprecher Volker Braumann den Vorlesungs-Zyklus neu eingelesen, und macht so eine Fundgrube an Wissen zugänglich, aus der ganze Generationen seitdem schöpften und die ein wunderbares Zeitdokument davon abgibt, wo der Wissenshorizont der an Bildung und Wissenschaft Interessierten um 1830 herum lag.
